ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Messiah University softball team dropped two wild games at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from
Paige Eakes in the top of the third. The Eagles responded an inning later with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. With just two outs remaining in the game,
Paige Eakes hit another solo home run to tie the game at two and send the game to extra innings. The two teams battled it out until the bottom of the 10th the Eagles scored a run to win the game 3-2.
Lydia Collison pitched 9.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), on 10 hits, five walks, and a strikeout.
Paige Eakes led the Falcons offense with two solo home runs.
Hannah Dyer also had two hits for the Falcons.
In game two, both pitchers dominated the start of the game. The Falcons broke through in the top of the fifth with three runs on a walk and a two-RBI single from
Kandice Schlabach to put the Falcons up 3-0. After six dominant innings from
Fallon Feaser, the Eagles got some base runners, and then scored four runs to walk-off the Falcons for the second straight game.
Fallon Feaser pitched six innings allowing two runs (one earned), on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Ali Wagner led the Falcons with two hits and a run.
Kandice Schlabach hit a two-RBI single and also reached base on a walk.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on the River Hawks of Susquehanna University for a double header on Thursday, April 4 starting at 2:00 p.m.
Game One – Eastern 3, Messiah 2 (10 innings)
The Falcons offense got a two-out rally going with a
McKenzie Shannon double, but the Eagles got out of the inning with a groundout.
Lydia Collison got the Eagles to go down in order to keep the game scoreless after the first inning.
The Falcons once again got a two-out hit from
Brielle Rosario, but the Eagles got out of the inning again. The Falcons gave up a two-out double in the bottom of the second and after the runner advanced to third, the Falcons got the Eagles to fly out to center field to end the Eagles threat and keep the game tied.
The Falcons though took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a solo home run from
Paige Eakes. The Eagles got runners on first and second with two outs, but once again
Lydia Collison got the Eagles to fly out and the Falcons kept their 1-0 lead headed to the fourth inning.
In the top of the fourth,
Allie Book hit a single, but the Falcons could not get a rally going and the Eagles got out of the inning. The Eagles in the bottom of the fourth, finally broke through and scored two runs on four hits and took a 2-1 lead.
Both teams went down in the fifth without a hit, but the Falcons looked to tie the game in the top of the sixth. With two outs,
Allie Book reached first on an error by the Eagles and then
Kandice Schlabach hit a single to put runners on first and second with two outs. The Eagles though got out of the jam with a ground out to second to hold onto their 2-1 lead. The Falcons in the bottom half of the sixth worked around an error on the leadoff batter and the Falcons needed a run to tie the game.
With one out, the Falcons did get their tying run with another solo home run from
Paige Eakes. The Falcons got a single from
Hannah Dyer, but the Eagles ended the inning with a strikeout.
Lydia Collison got the Eagles to go down in order and the game headed to extra innings.
After the Falcons went down in order in the top of the eighth,
Lydia Collison worked around a walk and a single to keep the game going into the top of the ninth.
Elianna Litwin hit a one-out single, but the Eagles worked around the single and looked to walk the game off in the bottom of the ninth. The Eagles led the inning off with a single. The Eagles then flew out into a double play and after another single, the Falcons got a pop out to end the threat in the bottom of the ninth.
Hannah Dyer led off the 10th with a bunt single to third.
McKenzie Shannon then moved Dyer to second on a sacrifice bunt, but the Eagles got out of the inning with a strikeout and a fly out. The Eagles in the bottom of the 10th led the inning off on a single and advanced to second of the throw. After a ground out the Eagles scored a run off of a Falcons error and won game one 3-2.

Game Two – Messiah vs. Eastern – 3:55 PM
In the top of the first, the Falcons led the game off with
Hannah Dyer reaching on an Eagles error, but a lineout into a double play and a ground out ended the first for the Falcons. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out off of three singles, but
Fallon Feaser got a lineout and a ground out to escape the first inning with the game still scoreless.
The Falcons went down in order in the top of the second and the Eagles looked to put their first run across in the bottom half. After a ground out the Eagles loaded the bases with a single and two walks, but Feaser got a pop out to second base and then a groundout to herself to keep the game scoreless through two.
The Falcons in the top of the third looked to break the scoreless tie. With one out,
Ali Wagner singled up the middle and then
Paige Eakes singled to center to put runners on first and second with one out. The Falcons then grounded into two fielder's choices to end the top of the third. The Eagles then went down in order and the game remained scoreless through three.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Falcons look to break through on offense in the top of the fifth.
Rebekah Wiley led off the inning with a single and then
Ali Wagner singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a flyout,
Hannah Dyer hit a single to load the bases for the Falcons. After a ground out,
McKenzie Shannon walked to score the first run of the game for both teams. After the walk,
Kandice Schlabach hit a two-RBI single up the middle to push the Falcons lead to 3-0.
Fallon Feaser continued to give the Eagles hitters fits with a shutdown bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth,
Elianna Litwin led the inning off with a single, but the Falcons could not add to their 3-0 lead. The Falcons continued to shut down the Eagles with the fourth straight inning of not allowing a base runner.
After a scoreless top of the seventh for the Falcons, the Eagles looked to get the offense going down three in the final frame of the game. The Eagles then scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, on four hits and an error to win the game 4-3.
