All-Around Performance Leads Women’s Lacrosse Past Lions

GRANTHAM, PA. – The Messiah University women's lacrosse team used a dominant effort to defeat the Lions of Albright College for senior day, on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons jumped to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons continued to pour it on, outscoring the Lions 8-1 in the second quarter to lead 13-1 at the half. The Falcons added six goals in the second half to finish off their 19-1 win over the Lions. Grace Pettitt led the Falcons with nine points on four goals and five assists. Hayley Lettinga totaled five points on four goals and an assist. Alina Bernal-Clark, Annalise Keitel, and Natalie Macri each added in two goals and an assist.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Chester, Pa. to take on the Pride of Widener University at 6:00 p.m.
 
How It Happened
The Falcons won in a runaway on Saturday with a balanced effort. Grace Pettitt started the scoring with a goal off a feed from Alina Bernal-Clark less than three minutes into the game. Tallies from Hayley Lettinga, Alina Bernal-Clark, Grace Pettitt and Katie Bukiewicz followed in the opening quarter as Messiah built a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
 
Albright got on the board in the second quarter, but not before three more Messiah scores made it 8-0. The Lions got on the board with 9:11 left in the second quarter, making it 8-1.
 
Eleven unanswered goals followed for the Falcons with five of those scores coming before the half to give Messiah a 13-1 lead at the break. With 5:37 remaining in the second quarter, Hayley Lettinga scored the Falcons' 11th goal of the afternoon to get the clock running.
 
After the break, with the clock running, Messiah connected on half a dozen scores with three in both the third and fourth quarters for the 19-1 final.
 
In the game, Grace Pettitt led the Falcons with nine points, scoring four goals and adding five assists. Hayley Lettinga tied Pettitt for the team lead with four goals as nine different Falcons scored on the day.
 
What's Up Next
With the victory, Messiah wins their fourth-straight game and improves to 5-8 on the season. The Falcons are now 3-0 in the conference and will continue their MAC Commonwealth slate with a game against the Widener Pride at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Chester, Pa.
