Ryan Givens Earns First Team All-American Honors from AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Monday morning, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced their All-American honors for the 2024 season. Among the 28 honorees, Ryan Givens was the lone Falcon to earn the accolade. This is Given's first ever All-American honor. This accolade comes after Givens has received All-Conference and All-Region honors.
 
Givens was a powerful force in the middle for the Falcons this year. The junior topped the Falcons with 261 kills while averaging 3.07 kills per set during a breakout season. On 14 occasions this season, Givens went north of 10 kills collecting a career-high 20 twice. The first was against Baldwin Wallace on Feb. 16 and a week later he did it again against Eastern Mennonite on Feb. 24. Givens concluded the season with a .435 hitting percentage, the fifth best single season mark in program history, just behind his .471 mark from the 2022 season. At the service line, Givens finished the season with 20 service aces, also a career high.
 
Defensively, Givens finished the season with 70 blocks, also leading the team. His most prolific defensive effort came against Juniata in Messiah's second match of the season on Jan. 26, when he recorded a season-high seven blocks. Givens collected seven matches with at least five blocks on the season.
 
The Mountville, Pa. native finished the season seventh among all Division III players this season in kills and hitting percentage.
 
Givens becomes the fourth different player in program history earn All-American honors, collecting the program's eighth national honor. He joins Nate Bowman (2021), Matt Knab (2021, 2022, 2023), and Mason Nissley (2021, 2022, 2023) as Messiah men's volleyball players with All-American accolades.
