Women’s Lacrosse Falls to York, Claims Second Seed in Conference Tournament

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University women's lacrosse team fell to the Spartans of York College, 14-6, on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. The Spartans jumped to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. The Spartans outscored the Falcons 5-1 in the second to take a 10-2 lead going into the half. Both teams totaled four goals in the second half to put the final score at 14-6. Hayley Lettinga led the Falcons with two goals.
 
Up next, the Falcons earned the second seed and will host the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal against the third-seeded Mustangs of Stevenson University on Wednesday, May 1 at 4:00 p.m.
 
First Quarter
The Spartans went on the attack quickly and scored three unanswered goals to take a three-goal lead with 12:06 remaining in the first. The Falcons looked to answer back, and Annalise Keitel scored a goal to reduce the Spartans lead to 3-1 with 8:22 remaining in the quarter. After some tight defense from both teams, the Spartans scored two goals in the final two minutes to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first.
 
Second Quarter
The Falcons opened the second quarter strong with a goal from Hayley Lettinga to reduce the Spartans lead to 5-2 with 12:04 remaining in the half. The Spartans though responded with five unanswered goals to end the half with a 10-2 lead.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons started the third strong with the second goal of the game from Hayley Lettinga to put the Falcons down 10-3 with 11:06 remaining in the third. The Spartans then scored the final three goals to put the score at 13-3 headed into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the final quarter with two straight goals from Grace Pettitt and Hannah Gawne to reduce the Falcons deficit to 13-5 with 13:20 remaining in the fourth. Both teams added a goal from the remainder of the game with Katie Bukiewicz to put the final score at 14-6.

Hayley Lettinga led the Falcons offense with two goals. Annalise Keitel, Grace Pettitt, Hannah Gawne, and Katie Bukiewicz each tallied a goal. Emma Hagg led the Falcons defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Addyson Wagman, Hayley Lettinga, and Hannah Gawne each caused three turnovers.
