NEWTOWN, Pa. – On Tuesday morning, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced their 2024 women's lacrosse All-Conference teams for the MAC Commonwealth. Among the student-athletes celebrated were half a dozen Falcons with
Emma Hagg and
Grace Pettitt earning major awards.
Emma Hagg was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year while
Grace Pettitt claimed Conference Rookie of the Year honors.
Both Hagg and Pettitt claimed spots on the First Team and were joined by
Hayley Lettinga in the midfield. Defender
Addyson Wagman picked up Second Team honors while
Annalise Keitel and
Mackenzie O'Haver were named Honorable Mention.
Emma Hagg earned her third-straight First Team All-Conference honor after another stellar season anchoring the Falcons' defense. The junior started all 18 games on the season and had a nose for the ball, leading Messiah with 40 groundballs on the year. Hagg also caused a team-high 31 turnovers and finished just two draw controls shy of the team lead with 52. Her consistent presence on the Falcons defensive line helped Messiah hold conference opponents to just 45 goals in the regular season for a 6.42 goals against average.
Joining Hagg on the First Team were the Falcons top two leading scorers with
Grace Pettitt and
Hayley Lettinga earning honors. Pettitt finished the season with 72 points on the year, netting 29 goals and assisting on 43 tallies. She set the program record for assists in a single game, dishing out 10 helpers on Apr. 24 against Alvernia, while also finishing with the second-most assists in a single season in program history. For her strong play this year, Pettitt was named the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year, becoming the 12th player in program history to earn the conference honor. Pettitt becomes the third Conference Rookie of the Year in the last four seasons for the Falcons, joining
Rachel Delate (2021) and
Emma Hagg (2022).
Hayley Lettinga was on the receiving end of the bulk of Pettitt's 43 assists. The sophomore midfielder scored a team-leading 56 goals on the season while also adding eight assists for 64 total points. Lettinga scored in bunches this season, netting four or more goals on eight occasions, including two different games with six goals against Lebanon Valley (Apr. 3) and Alvernia (Apr. 24). In seven conference games, Lettinga scored 25 goals, netting multiple goals in all but one conference game. For her efforts, Lettinga claimed her second career All-Conference honor, adding a First Team accolade to her Honorable Mention nod from last year.
Sophomore
Addyson Wagman earned Second Team laurels this season. Wagman started 16 games for the Falcons this season, picking up 21 groundballs and causing 18 turnovers. Her play really stepped up when conference games came around. In the seven regular season games against conference opponents, Wagman grabbed 16 groundballs and caused 14 turnovers while even scoring a goal against Albright on Apr. 13.
The Falcons had a pair of players earn Honorable Mention honors with
Annalise Keitel on attack and
Mackenzie O'Haver in goal. Keitel finished her sophomore season with 23 goals and 12 assists for 35 total points. Keitel was ultra-consistent, scoring in 16 of Messiah's 18 games. She also impacted the games in more ways than just on offense, finishing the year with 22 groundballs, 31 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers.
Between the pipes,
Mackenzie O'Haver finished the season with an 11.16 GAA while logging 865:55 minutes in goal. O'Haver made 106 saves on the year for a .397 save percentage. Her numbers in conference play were much better with a 6.46 GAA and a .491 save percentage with 26 saves in 250:55 minutes. O'Haver's All-Conference honor is the first of her career.
As a team, the Falcons finished the season with an 8-10 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the conference. Messiah earned the second-seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, but saw their season come to a close in a tight, 10-9 conference semifinal match against Stevenson.
