GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 5 Messiah field hockey team earned a 5-0 victory against Dickinson College on Friday evening to open the 2024 campaign. The Falcons scored a goal in the first quarter and took a 1-0 lead into the half. The Falcons added two goals in the third and two in the fourth to defeat the Red Devils 5-0.
Aubrey Clark scored two goals for the Falcons while
Mallory Kline,
Ellie Lefever, and
Hailey Womer each added one.
The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, September 4th, when they host the No. 2 Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University on Anderson Field at 5:00 p.m.
First Quarter
Dickinson had the first chance of the game with a penalty corner at the 36 second mark but they were unable to convert the opportunity. Four minutes later, with a corner opportunity of their own, the Falcons were able to find the back of the cage when
Kelsey Heltzel found
Mallory Kline for the first goal of the 2024 season. The Falcons added one more corner in the first period which led to a shot by
Teagan Murrie that went just wide.
Carrie Bair took a shot late in the quarter, but the shot was blocked, and the score remained 1-0.
Second Quarter
After what looked like the second goal of the night for the Falcons, a penalty was called at the front of the cage and the Falcons were awarded a penalty stroke.
Chelsea Carpenter fired a shot on goal, but the Red Devils goalkeeper made the save to keep the score at 1-0. The Falcons added four additional shots on goal, but the Red Devils goalkeeper kept making saves keeping the score at 1-0 heading into the half.
Third Quarter
In the third period, Messiah took six shots before
Teagan Murrie found
Aubrey Clark in front of the cage to bring the Falcons to a 2-0 lead with just under two minutes to play in the third. Just over a minute later,
Ellie Lefever also found the back of the cage to end the quarter with the Falcons leading 3-0.
Fourth Quarter
After a slow first couple minutes of fourth,
Aubrey Clark added her second goal of the game with 11:50 remaining in the game. After five shots on goal,
Hailey Womer tipped a hard struck ball from
Ellie Lefever past the Red Devils goalkeeper to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead.

Ellie Lefever each picked up an assist on the night. The Falcons out shot the Red Devils 29-5, placing 18 on goal to the Red Devils one. Messiah took 13 penalty corners to Dickinson's two.
Joy Lippert earned the victory in goal with one save.
