READING, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the nineteenth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team used a dominant effort to defeat the Nittany Lions of Penn St. Berks, 4-0. The Falcons dominated the first half, controlling most of the procession on the attack, but could not find the back of the goal. That was until the 41st minute, where
Hannah Lashley scored her first career goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead headed into the break. The Falcons then scored three goals in the second half, with
Alayna Williams scoring her first career goal and
Kierstyn Fogle scoring two straight goals to end the scoring to give Messiah a 4-0 win.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on the third-ranked Cougars of Misericordia University on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
First Half
The Falcons controlled the pace of play right from the opening kickoff.
Addi Martin and
Brittany Laird each got shots on goal, but the Nittany Lions goalkeeper made two saves to keep the game scoreless. The Falcons offense continued the pressure with
Kristina Akselsen,
Brittany Laird, and
Hannah Lashley each adding a shot on goal, but each was again saved by the Nittany Lions goalkeeper. The Falcons finally broke the scoreless tie with a goal from
Hannah Lashley in the 41st minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Second Half
The Falcons offense continued to dominant in the second half. In the 63rd minute,
Julia Martin sent a cross into the box and the ball bounced off the body of
Alayna Williams and into the goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Falcons looked to strike again in the 69th minute.
