GLASSBORO, N.J. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University men's soccer team fell to the twenty-second ranked Profs of Rowan University, 1-0. The Profs scored an early goal in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Falcons could not muster a shot on goal in the first half, but in the second half managed two shots on goal, but both were saved by the Profs goalkeeper.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the top-ranked Eagles of the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
First Half
After a couple of Falcons shots were blocked and went wide, the Profs went on the attack. In the ninth minute, a Rowan forward sent a shot towards the bottom right corner of the goal, but
Adam Carter was there to make the save. Just a little under a minute later, the Profs got a great opportunity and sent a shot into the top-right corner of the goal to give the Profs a 1-0 lead. The Falcons did not send a shot on goal in the first half, but
Adam Carter kept the game close with two more saves to keep the score at 1-0 at the half.
Second Half
In the 51st minute, the Falcons looked to even the score.
Josh Bratager sent a through ball to
Sam Phillips towards the left edge of the box. Phillips made a move past a Rowan defender and ripped a shot towards the bottom-right corner of the goal, but the Profs goalkeeper made the save to keep the Falcons off the board. In the 81st minute, the Falcons looked to score late to tie the game.
Davis Pagett sent a shot towards the bottom-right corner, but the Profs goalkeeper made another save to keep the Falcons off the board. The Profs defense did not allow another shot on goal and held on for a 1-0 win.
Stats
The Falcons tallied nine shots with two shots on goal. The Profs totaled 11 shots with five shots on goal. The Falcons earned 11 corner kicks to the Profs three.
Adam Carter made four saves in goal for the Falcons.
