READING, PA. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah men's basketball team lost a conference bout to Alvernia University 81-56 on the road. The Falcons got behind early and the Golden Wolves were able to take advantage of a couple big runs to keep Messiah at bay and pull off the conference win.

How It Happened
First Half
The Falcons were able to hold a 6-5 lead through the opening five minutes of the game after
Caleb Lyles and
Jordan Edwards-Saliu found the bottom of the net. However, a 7-0 run flipped the tables giving Alvernia the 12-6 lead, until a
Johnny McBride layup broke up the run. Over the next five minutes, another big run from the Golden Wolves provided them a 28-11 cushion over Messiah. The Falcons were able to ride the hand of Lyles, including a
Christian Jackson layup to cut the deficit to 30-17. Following an 5-0 Alvernia run, back-to-back free throws from Lyles and Jackson kept the game at arm's length. However, Alvernia closed out the half on a 11-3 run to hold a 46-24 lead.
Second Half
Ben Wert and Jackson were able to keep Messiah in the game through the first four minutes, but the Golden Wolves managed to hold off the Falcons to a double-digit lead. Over the next four minutes, the Falcons saw contribution from
Cameron Thompson,
Avery Kopcha, and Lyles. However, consistent scoring from Alvernia kept the Falcons away leading 65-43. The Falcons continued to find success on the offensive side of the ball, with Jackson, Edwards-Saliu, and Lyles all knocking down baskets. But the Golden Wolves led by 19 with five minutes remaining. Alvernia would close out the game on a 12-2 run to down the Falcons at home.

The Falcons were led by
Caleb Lyles(16), Jordan Edwards Saliu(12), and
Christian Jackson(12) in points. While Lyles added 13 rebounds, and
Cameron Thompson finished with two assists.

The Falcons will travel to York Pennsylvania for a match-up with the Spartans of York College. The game is set for 3:00p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18th.
