YORK, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University women's basketball used a dominant effort to defeat the Spartans of York College, 67-47. The Falcons opened the game strong with a 20-11 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons continued to roll in the second outscoring the Spartans by 11 to take a 42-22 into the half. Both teams scored 10 in the third, but the Falcons kept their 20-point lead heading into the final quarter. Both teams scored 15 in the fourth and the Falcons earned a 67-47 win.
Reese Harden led the Falcons with 14 points and four assists.
Liv Monturo added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Chloe Milanesi totaled a near triple-double with 10 points, nine steals, and six rebounds.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Widener University on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Falcons got off to a hot start with a 10-2 run in the first three minutes.
Liv Monturo and
Reese Harden led the Falcons during the run with four points each. After some matching baskets from both teams, the Falcons outscored the Spartans, 6-5 to end the first quarter with a 20-11 lead.
Justine Forbes led the Falcons with five points during the final stretch of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
After back-and-forth baskets between the two teams in the first two minutes, the Falcons went on an 8-2 run to push their lead to 13 with four minutes remaining in the half.
Reese Harden started the run with a jumper and
EmmyFaith Wood ended the run with a layup. After a pair of free throws from the Spartans, the Falcons ended the half with a 10-1 run to take a 42-22 lead into the break.
Chloe Milanesi started the run with a pair of free throws and
Ainsley Bell ended the run with a jumper right before the buzzer.
Third Quarter
The Spartans outscored the Falcons 7-5 in the first five minute to reduce the Falcons lead to 20.
EmmyFaith Wood drained a three and
Liv Monturo scored on a jumper for the Falcons during the stretch. The Falcons outscored the Spartans 5-3 to end the third to put the score at 52-32 heading into the final quarter.
Reese Harden scored on a jumper and
Hope Cook made a three for the Falcons during the stretch.
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with a 9-4 run to extend their lead to 61-36. The run was highlighted by a
Chloe Milanesi three that started the run for the Falcons. The Spartans outscored the Falcons 11-6 the rest of the way, but the Falcons lead was too big for a comeback and Messiah earned a 67-47 win.
Lydia Ehst, and
Raegan Fogarty each added baskets at the end of the game for the Falcons.

The Spartans shot 36.2 perrcent from the field and 15.4 percent from three. The Falcons defense put pressure on the Spartans all afternoon, forcing 23 turnovers and only committing 11 turnovers on offense.
