Falcons Compete Well at Bison Open and Multi

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Messiah Men's Track and Field team was in action on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 for the 26th Annual Bison Open and Multi hosted by Bucknell University.  In a field comprised of teams across all three divisions, the Falcons looked to compete strong. Highlighting day one was a third place finish for the Distance Medley Relay. They combined for a time of 10:26.98, finishing third out of 10 teams. Highlighting the day two competition was a two-three finish in the 800 Meter Run for Evan Sarkett and John Condon.

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Blue & White Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall.

Day One Action
The Distance Medley Relay team  of Kaleb Kabakjian (1200 meters), Sean Baxter (400 meters), Evan Sarkett (800 meters) and John Condon (1600 meters) combined for a time of 10:26.98, finishing third out of 10 teams. The time is the sixth fastest ever run by a Messiah team. Ryan Klemick ran a new personal best in the 5000 Meter Run, crossing in a time of 16:30.85, finishing fifth. Tyler Billet finished in sixth with a time of 16:57.13.

A pair of Falcons competed in day one of the Heptathlon with Drew Lebo and Liam McGovern representing Messiah. In the 60 Meter Dash, Lebo registered a time of 7.43 while McGovern crossed in a time of 7.57. In the Long Jump, McGovern reached a distance of 6.09 meters and Lebo was unable to register a mark. McGovern registered a distance of 11.76 meters in the shotput, with Lebo reaching a distance of 8.69 meters. The final event of day one of the heptathlon was the High Jump. McGovern cleared a height of 1.72 meters while Lebo cleared 1.36 meters. At the end of day one, McGovern had 2448 points and Lebo had 1433.

Day Two Action
The majority of events occurred on day two with more Falcons in action. Three Falcons competed in the Long Jump with Zion Buck leading the way. Buck registered a mark of 6.56 meters to finish fifth in a field of 19. Landon Kerr jumped 5.92 meters while Jacob Cramer jumped 5.80 meters. The three returned to the pit for the Triple Jump where Buck jumped a distance of 13.68 meters, finishing as runner-up in the event. Cramer jumped a season best 13.00 meters while Kerr jumped a season best of 12.47 meters.

A trio of Falcons took to the circle for the Shot Put with Ted Lechthaler leading the way with a toss of 13.40 meters. Nathan Bowman was close behind with a new personal best of 13.15 meters to move from tenth to eighth on the Messiah Top Ten list. Jake Holland rounded out the efforts with a mark of 11.16 meters.

In the Weight Throw, the Lechthaler brothers each threw a new personal best mark. Hoyt Lechthaler finished fifth overall with a new personal best of 16.06 meters. Ted Lechthaler threw a new personal best distance of 12.63 meters, moving from ninth to tied for eighth on the Messiah Indoor Top Ten list.

Ben Reichenbach ran 7.54 seconds in the 60 Meter Dash and Austin Grove ran a new personal best of 7.58.

A trio of Falcons took to the track for the Mile with Kyle Costello leading the way with a 4:32.23. Daniel Satariano crossed the line in a time of 4:46.38 and Zeke Colyer ran a season best time of 4:46.96.

Messiah had three competitors in the 400 Meter Dash with Sean Baxter crossing the line in a time of 53.25. Will Xenakis and Adam Hostetler each ran new personal best times of 53.29 and 53.64, respectively.

Highlighting the Falcon efforts on the track was a two-three punch in the 800 Meter Run with Evan Sarkett and John Condon. Sarkett ran a season best time of 1:57.10 to finish second, just outleaning teammate Condon who crossed in a time of 1:57.24. Nathan Kimmel added a season best time of 2:02.07. Eli McClymont crossed the line in a time of 2:07.97 with Nathan Kopp finishing in 2:13.93.

Ben Reichenbach took to the track for a non-traditional 1000 Meter Run. He crossed the line in a time of 2:58.88.

Louka Fetter highlighted the Falcons efforts in the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 8:45.56, finishing fourth out of 16. Kaleb Kabakjian crossed the line in a time of 8:58.30 while Bradley Kreider finished in a time of 9:29.20.

The final event on the track was the 4x400 Meter Relay. Messiah fielded an A and B squad in the event. The A team of Will Xenakis, Adam Hostetler, Daniel Satariano, and Nathan Kopp crossed the line in a time of 3:36.85. The B team of Zeke Colyer, Nathan Kimmel, Eli McClymont, and Kyle Costello combined for a time of 3:48.91.
Liam McGovern returned for day two of competition in the heptathlon. The day two events began with the 60 Meter Hurdles. McGovern crossed the line in a time of 9.57 seconds. McGovern cleared a height of 2.98 meters in the Pole Vault before running 3:05.84 in the 1000 Meter Run. McGovern finished 10th out of 20 multis with 4033 points. The cumulative score of 4033 points puts McGovern in ninth on the Messiah Indoor Top Ten list.
