No. 1 Messiah Women’s Soccer Falls at No. 17 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – On Wednesday evening, the top-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team fell at the seventeenth-ranked Profs of Rowan University, 2-1. The Falcons got on the board first with a goal from Mia Libby in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Profs quickly scored to open the second half to tie the game at one. The Profs broke the tie in the 68th minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Falcons had a couple of chances the rest of the way, but each opportunity was saved, and the Profs earned the 2-1 win.
 
Up next, the Falcons travels to St. Davids, Pa. to take on the Eagles of Eastern University on Friday, Oct. 10 at 2:00 p.m.
 
First Half
The Profs got the first scoring chance of the game with a shot on goal in the 12th minute, but Ava Wert made the save to keep the game scoreless. The Falcons got their first chance in the 23rd minute on a Alayna Williams shot, but the Profs goalkeeper made the save. In the 26th minute, Lexi Sarago forced a turnover from the Profs, and the Falcons went on the attack. The Falcons moved the ball around on the attacking third and eventually found an opening. Ella Lent-Koop sent a long pass to Hannah Adair just outside of the box. Adair poked a pass towards the left corner of the box to Mia Libby. Libby took a couple of touches, blew past a Prof defender, and sent a hot into the bottom-right corner to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. The Falcons got another chance in the 41st minute on a shot on goal from Sarago, but the Profs goalkeeper made the save to keep the Falcons lead at one headed into the half.
 
Second Half
The Falcons started the second half on the attack and Alayna Williams got on a shot on goal, but the Profs goalkeeper made the save. The Profs then went on the attack with a shot on goal in the 48th minute, but Ava Wert made a sharp angle save to keep the Profs off the board. The Profs got a corner kick off the save and scored off a couple of deflections by Rowan to tie the game at one in the 49th minute. The Falcons next chance on goal came in the 61st minute, with a Brittany Laird shot on goal that was saved by a Rowan defender from going into the back of the goal. In the 68th minute, the Profs scored a goal to take a 2-1 lead. The Falcons looked to tie the game in the final 22 minutes, but both shots on goal from Mia Libby were saved and the Profs earned the 2-1 win.
 
Stats
Mia Libby scored the lone goal for the Falcons. The Falcons totaled 11 shots with seven shots on goal. The Profs tallied eight shots with four shots on goal. The Profs earned four corner kicks to the Falcons three. Ava Wert earned the start in goal for the Falcons and made two saves.
