Women’s Soccer NCAA Opening Weekend Preview

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team earned an automatic bid to the 2025 DIII Women's Soccer NCAA Tournament. With the eight-seed, the Falcons will host the opening weekend starting on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Falcons open the tournament against the Huskies of Southern Maine on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11:00 a.m. The twenty-fifth-ranked Amherst College Mammoths and the Cortland Red Dragons play in the other first round game at Messiah at 1:30 p.m. The winner of each first round game will play on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. on Shoemaker Field for chance to head to the Sweet Sixteen.
 
Ticket Information
Fans should note that tickets must be purchased to attend an NCAA Tournament game. At Messiah ticket purchases are cash only. The prices for tickets are: Adults $6, Seniors (65+) and Students $3, Children (3-12) $2. All Messiah Students with a valid ID can go to the game for free.

No. 8 Messiah University Falcons

19-2 Overall Record, MAC Commonwealth Champions

The Falcons enter the opening weekend of the tournament with a 19-2 overall record. The Falcons started the season with an 11-game winning streak.  The Falcons then lost two of their next three games, with the losses coming to No. 17 Rowan and Penn St. Harrisburg. The Falcons bounced back, winning the final seven games of the season, including a 4-0 win over Stevenson University in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game. The Falcons are 11-1 this season on Shoemaker Field and have outscored opponents 37-2 at home this season.
 
The Falcons enter the tournament with one of the top overall units in the country. The Falcons offense ranks 21st in total points (168), goals (60), and assists (48), 18th in shots per game (22.14), 28th in points per game (8.00), and 31 in scoring offense (2.86 goals per game). The Falcons defense also was one of the strongest groups in the country, finishing second with a .810 shutout percentage and third in goals-against average (.238).

University of Southern Maine Huskies

11-10-2 Overall Record, Little East Conference Champions

The Huskies enter the tournament with an 11-10-2 overall record. The Huskies opened the first half of the regular season with a 4-6 record. The Huskies ended the regular season with a 7-4-2 record to earn the third seed in the Little East Conference Tournament. The Huskies then won three-straight games in the conference tournament to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies enter the tournament with a 4-7-1 on the road this season.
 
The Huskies offense has had a strong season, with a national ranking of 25th in points (161), 26th in goals (57), 23rd in assists (47), and 25th in shots per game (21.22). The Huskies defense ranks 319th in the country with 2.126 goals per game allowed.

No. 25 Amherst College Mammoths

10-4-1 Overall Record, At-Large, NESCAC

The Mammoths enter the tournament with a 10-4-2 overall record. The Mammoths started the first half of the season with a 6-2-2 record. The Mammoths finished the regular season with a 4-1 record in their final five games. The Mammoths fell in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament to Colby College and earned an at-large bid as the twenty-fifth ranked team in the country in the final NPI rankings.
 
The Mammoths rank middle of the country in most offensive and defensive categories, with a very difficult NESCAC schedule that features seven teams, other than Amherst, in the top 50 of the NPI. The Mammoths have scored only 24 goals on the season and average 15.56 shots per game. The Mammoths defense ranks 72nd in the country, allowing .750 goals per game.

Cortland Red Dragons

14-2-4 Overall Record, SUNYAC Champions

The Red Dragons enter the NCAA Tournament with a 14-2-4 overall record. The Red Dragons opened the season with a 5-2-3 record with their only losses coming against two ranked teams. The Red Dragons finished the season strong with a 9-0-2, including a 3-2 win over Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC Championship game to earn the automatic bid. The Red Dragons had an impressive 7-1-2 record on the road this season.
 
The Red Dragons defense ranks as one of the top units in the country. The Red Dragons rank eighth with a .750 shutout percentage, 19th with a .890 save percentage, and 23rd with a .450 goals-against average. The Red Dragons offense ranks 90th in the country with 111 points, 51st with 9.75 shots on goal, and 11th with 7.50 corner kicks per game.
