Women’s Basketball Flies Past Eagles

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University women's basketball team cruised to a 70-38 win over the Eagles of Juniata College. The Falcons rolled in the first quarter outscoring the Eagles, 24-10. The Falcons then outscored the Eagles by eight in the second to take a commanding 42-22 lead at the half. The Falcons outscored the Eagles by 10 in the final two quarters to earn the 70-38 win. Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 14 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Charlotte Milanesi totaled 11 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Brooke Fenchel added 11 point, three assists, and two steals.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game with a 13-2 run in the first four minutes to take an early lead. Raegan Fogarty opened the game with a jumper and Hope Cook ended the run with a three. The Eagles then outscored the Falcons 8-4 to reduce the Falcons lead to seven with three minutes remaining in the first. The Falcons then responded with a 7-0 run to close the first to take a 24-10 lead. Charlotte Milanesi started the run with a three and April Kauffeldt and Maddy Gassman each made a jumper to close the run for the Falcons.
 
Second Quarter
The Falcons opened the second with an 8-0 run to take a 32-10 lead with 7:40 remaining in the second. Liv Monturo totaled four points and Raegan Fogarty and EmmyFaith Wood each added a basket for the Falcons during the run. The Eagles then responded with five-straight points to reduce the Falcons lead to 17 midway through the second. The Falcons then quickly went on a quick 6-2 run to push the Falcons lead back to 21. Monturo totaled four points and Brooke Fenchel added a basket during the run. The Falcons outscored the Eagles, 4-3 in the final two minutes of the second to take a 42-20 lead at the half. Charlotte Milanesi scored the final basket for the Falcons in the second.
 
Third Quarter
The third quarter started slow, with the Eagles outscoring the Falcons 4-1 in the first half of the third. The Falcons then responded with a 11-2 to close out the third quarter with a 54-26 lead. The run started with a layup from Brooke Fenchel and ended with a three from Charlotte Milanesi.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 36 with six minutes remaining in the fourth. Brooke Fenchel led the Falcons with four points and Maddy Gassman and Raegan Fogarty each added a basket for the Falcons during the run. After the Eagles hit a three, the Falcons went on a 7-0 to take a 69-29 lead with just under three minutes to go in the fourth. Kirsten Parypinski led the Falcons during the run with six-straight points. The Eagles outscored the Falcons, 9-1 to close the game with Gisaiah Griffin hitting a free throw.

Brooke Fenchel added 11 point, three assists, and two steals. Raegan Fogarty totaled six points and seven rebounds. EmmyFaith Wood also added six points and five rebounds. The Falcons shot 46.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three. The Eagles shot 23.2 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.
