Shutdown Defense Leads Women’s Basketball Past Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – On Tuesday evening, the Messiah University women's basketball team earned a dominant 60-31 at Stevenson University. The Falcons opened the game with a dominant first quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 21-2. Stevenson outscored the Falcons 10-7 in the second to reduce the Falcons lead to 28-12 lead at the half. The Falcons outscored the Mustangs by 13 in the third to take a 47-18 lead in the final quarter. The Falcons and Mustangs both scored 13 points in the final quarter and the Falcons earned the 60-31. Chloe Milanesi led the Falcons with 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Liv Monturo totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Reese Harden added 10 points, five steals, and three assists.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Eastern University for the final game of the 2024-25 regular season.

First Quarter
After the Mustangs opened the game with a basket, the Falcons responded with an 11-0 run to take a 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter. Reese Harden and Liv Monturo led the Falcons with four points each and Chloe Milanesi added a three. The Falcons finished the first with 10 straight points to close out a 21-0 run to end the first quarter. Chloe Milanesi led the Falcons during the run with four points and EmmyFaith Wood and Reese Harden each added a basket.
 
Second Quarter
The scoring slowed down to start the second with the Falcons outscoring the Mustangs 4-2 in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Raegan Fogarty and Charlotte Milanesi each tallied a basket for the Falcons during the stretch. The Mustangs ended the half with an 8-3 run to end the half down 28-12. Liv Monturo scored all three points for the Falcons during the run.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons came out of the break strong with a 12-1 run to extend their lead to 40-13 midway through the third. Charlotte Milanesi started the run with a jumper and Chloe Milanesi ended the run with a jumper. After the Mustangs scored three straight points, the Falcons ended the third with a 7-2 run to push the Falcons lead to 47-18 entering the final quarter. Chloe Milanesi started the run with a three and EmmyFaith Wood ended the run with a layup.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Mustangs opened the fourth with a quick 6-2 run. Chloe Milanesi scored the lone basket for the Falcons during the Mustangs run. The Falcons then outscored the Mustangs 6-3 in the next three minutes to put the Falcons back up by 29. Reese Harden and Liv Monturo added a basket during the stretch and Chloe Milanesi drained another three. Each team scored four points to end the game with Justine Forbes and Unity Miller scoring for the Falcons to give Messiah a 60-31 win.

Chloe Milanesi led the Falcons with 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Liv Monturo totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Reese Harden added 10 points, five steals, and three assists. Charlotte Milanesi totaled four points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. The Falcons shot 39.7 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from three. The Mustangs shot 24.0 percent from the field and made zero threes. The Falcons defense not only made it difficult for the Mustangs to get an open shot, but they also forced 23 turnovers on the evening.
