Women’s Basketball MAC Commonwealth Tournament Preview

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University women's basketball team earned the top-seed in the 2025 MAC Commonwealth Tournament after a 14-0 record in conference play this season. The top-seeded Falcons host the fourth-seeded Lions of Albright College on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals. The winner will play the winner of Widener and York at the highest seed location on Saturday, March 1. Check out the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Preview below.

No. 1 Messiah University Falcons
23-2 Overall Record, 14-0 MAC Commonwealth

The top-seeded Falcons finished the 2024-25 regular season with an 23-2 overall record and 14-0 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Falcons only two losses on the season came against No. 12 Gettysburg and No. 15 Catholic. The Falcons enter the tournament on fire with sixteen straight wins to end the regular season. The Falcons also finished with a 12-0 record at home this season.
 
The Falcons offense finished third in the MAC Commonwealth with 63.5 points per game. The Falcons offense though was efficient, with the highest field goal percentage in conference at 41.6 percent. The Falcons defense though led the team throughout the entire season. The Falcons led the MAC Commonwealth in scoring defense allowing only 45.8 points per game. The Falcons are also ranked second in scoring defense in the entire country and are first in three-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot only 18.2 percent from behind the arc.

The fourth-seeded Lions of Albright College finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 13-11 overall record and a 7-7 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Lions split the season series with Widener and York as their biggest wins on the season. The Lions bounced back this season from last season after finishing 9-16 and not making it to the MAC Commonwealth tournament. The Lions finished the season with a 6-6 record on road games this season.
 
The Lions finished fourth in the MAC Commonwealth in scoring offense, scoring 63.4 points per game. The Lions totaled the scoring numbers even with shooting 34.7 percent from the field, which ranked seventh in the conference. The Lions defense finished sixth in the conference, allowing 61.7 points per game. The Lions finished first in the MAC Commonwealth with 46.4 rebounds per game.

This Season Against Messiah
The Falcons swept the Lions this season. The Falcons defeated the Lions, 75-53 in both teams conference openers on Jan. 8. Messiah defeated the Lions on Feb. 8, 68-43 to earn the season sweep.

No. 2 Widener University Pride
17-8 Overall Record, 10-4 MAC Commonwealth

The second-seeded Pride of Widener University finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 17-8 overall record and a 10-4 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Pride opened the season with a 7-4 record in non conference play. The Pride opened conference play with a 4-3 record before finishing off the season winning six of their last seven games.
 
The Pride finished as the top scoring offense in the MAC Commonwealth with 65.2 points per game. The Pride's offense also shot 39.4 percent from the field, which ranked second in the conference behind Messiah. The Pride's defense finished fifth allowing 61.2 points per game.

This Season Against Messiah
The Falcons defeated the Pride in both games this season. The Falcons won game on at Widener, 73-62. The Falcons then hosted the Pride on Feb. 12 and cruised to a 76-56 win.

No. 3 York College Spartans
16-9 Overall Record, 9-5 MAC Commonwealth


The Spartans of York College finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-5 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Spartans opened the season with a 7-4 record in non conference. The Spartans finished the season with a 9-5 record in MAC Commonwealth play, winning seven of their last nine games. The Spartans finished the regular season with a 6-6 record away from home.
 
The Spartans finished the season with the second-best scoring offense in the MAC Commonwealth with 65.1 points per game. The Spartans also finished third in the conference with a 38.6 field goal percentage. The Spartans defense finished second in the MAC Commonwealth allowing only 56.8 points per game. The York defense also finished second allowing opponents to shoot 34.0 percent from the field this season.

This Season Against Messiah
The Falcons went undefeated against the Spartans this season. The Falcons dominated on Jan. 18 in a 67-47 win. In the second matchup, the game was much tighter, but the Falcons pulled away in the end to earn the 61-52 win.
