Falcons Bats Come Alive in Game Two for Series Sweep Over Oneonta

HAWAII, On Tuesday evening, the Messiah softball team swept the Red Dragons of Oneonta in day two of their Hawaii trip. In game one, the Falcons used a strong fourth inning to give them just enough to hold off Oneonta in the tightly contested game one. In game two, the Falcons bats came alive, putting up 16 runs on the Red Dragons to five inning run them.

Up Next:
The Falcons will take on Puget Sound in a doubleheader Thursday, March. 13th.

Game One – Messiah 4 Oneonta 3
How It Happened:

The Falcons found themselves trailing early as the Red Dragons struck first in the top of the first. Messiah, however, would respond Lucy Murphy, and Feaser would both reach base, followed by Kandace Schlabach and Allie Book knocking singles to tie the game up at 1-1.

Over the next two innings, Fallon Feaser was dominant in the circle with a combination of both strikeouts and forcing fly outs /ground outs, stalling long enough for the Falcons offense could find its rhythm.

The Bottom of the fourth would be just that, Brielle Rosario started it off with a single into right field. Sierra Emery would use her speed as a pinch runner to snag a base putting her in scoring position. Following a walk from Haylie Fenstermaker, an Ali Wagner triple to right center cleared the bases giving Messiah the 3-1 lead. Messiah was not done yet, Hannah Dyer would rope a triple into right center to score one more, extending the lead to 4-1.

The Red Dragons however, responded in the fifth finally getting to Feaser, bringing home two runners to cut the Falcons lead to 4-3. Feaser would remain calm, ending the inning still holding on to the lead. Over the next inning and half, Messiah could not extend that lead despite leaving a total of three runners on base heading into the seventh inning.

Feaser managed to force a line out to begin the final inning, but a walk and an advancement put a runner in scoring position to tie the game. Following a fly out to center, Maggie Chinnadurai would replace Feaser looking to close the game out. Six pitches later she would do just that, forcing a pop up to short to end the game for Messiah.

Stats:
Both Hannah Dyer and Lucy Murphy went 2-4 from the plate, accounting for one run. Fallon Feaser, Kandace Schlabach, Allie Book, Brielle Rosario, Maddie Williams, and Ali Wagner all nabbed hits in the win. Feaser pitched six strong innings only giving up two runs, striking out two batters.

Game Two – Messiah 16 Oneonta 2
How It Happened:

The Falcons got things going early in game two. Hannah Dyer led the game off with a walk, stealing second and advancing to third on a grounder from Lucy Murphy. Fallon Feaser would drive her home with a double to left center. More errors allowed Feaser to score from second off a Kandace Schlabach hit. Following back-to-back singles from Allie Book and Ali Wagner to score another, the Red Dragons were forced to make a pitching change down 3-0. After a single from Jaden Keister, a walk from Haylie Fenstermaker gave the Falcons the 4-0 lead.

Feaser put a stamp on the first inning forcing a double play and striking out another to head into the second. The Falcons continued to tally on to the lead as both Murphy and Feaser reached base.  However, despite Murphy getting thrown out at home, a Schlabach double to right brought Feaser home. Book would get involved with a single of her own to score one more giving Messiah the 6-0 advantage. After drawing a walk from Wagner, Keister added to the total lacing a triple into right field scoring both Wagner and Book.

The Red Dragons managed to snag a run despite Feaser retiring the first two batters. Entering the third leading 8-1, the Falcons were hoping to add to their total. Unfortunately, Messiah would strand a runner on second as the Red Dragons looked to build upon their second inning in the bottom of the third. Feaser had other plans, quickly forcing a 1-2-3 inning to head into the fourth.

Allie Book and Ali Wagner led things off with back-to-back singles, followed by a couple of steals from Sierra Emery and Wagner put them in scoring position with Keister at the plate. Keister delivered with an RBI groundout, followed by an error and a walk to score one more run giving Messiah the 10-1 lead. Dyer closed out the inning with a double to right scoring two more.

After a quick bottom of the fourth, the Falcons continued to pour it on the Red Dragons. A combination of singles and walks led to Messiah scoring four more runs to give them a 16-1 lead. The Red Dragons would score one more in the bottom of the fifth, but by that point it was too late for any miracle.

Stats:
Allie Book and Kandice Schlabach both tallied three hits apiece, accounting for five runs between the two. Ali Wagner, Hannah Dyer, Fallon Feaser, and Jaden Keister all grabbed two hits at the plate. Maggie Chinnadurai pitched four innings striking out two allowing two runs.
