GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon,
Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with four home runs and eight RBIs to power the Falcons to a 15-9 win over the Red Devil of Dickinson College. The Red Devils got on the board early with a solo home run in the first. The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs on a solo home run from
Matt Luchovick and an RBI double from
Isaiah Parido. The Falcons added three more in the fourth to push their lead to 5-1. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Falcons added a run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to give the Falcons a 9-1 lead. The Red Devils battled back with six runs in the top of the eighth, but the Falcons answered again with six runs in the bottom of the eighth, including a grand slam from
Matt Luchovick for his fourth homer of the day to give the Falcons a 15-7 lead. The Red Devils scored two in the ninth, but
Julian Butler shut down the late Dickinson rally to give the Falcons a 15-9 win.
Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with four home runs and eight RBIs.
Evan Wagaman totaled three hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Drew Dellinger threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts out of the pen.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Albright College for game one of the three game series on Friday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Messiah 15, Dickinson 9
The Red Devils opened the game strong with a solo home run in the top of the first to give Dickinson a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Falcons looked to get on the board in the bottom of the third.
Matt Luchovick led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game at one. Following the homer,
David Martinez doubled to put a runner on second with no outs.
Isaiah Parido then hit an RBI double down the left field line to give the Falcons the 2-1 lead. The Red Devils though limited the damaged and got three straight outs to end the bottom of the third.
After another scoreless inning from
Sawyer Shepherd, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Dustin Isanogle led off the inning with a double to left.
Luke Ott then looked to move Isanogle to third with a sac bunt, but the Dickinson third baseman made a throwing error and Isanogle came home to score. With Ott on second,
Matt Luchovick drilled his second home run of the afternoon down the left field line to give the Falcons a 5-1 lead.
After a scoreless fifth, the Falcons looked to continue to add to their lead in the bottom of sixth.
Matt Luchovick's career day continued with another home run for his third of the day and pushed the Falcons lead to 6-1 after six innings.
The Falcons offense kept going in the bottom of seventh. After a ground out,
Evan Wagaman singled to left.
Jarrett Gordon then reached on an error by the Red Devils first baseman to put runners on the corners with one out.
Dustin Isanogle then hit an RBI ground out to extend the Falcons lead to six.
Luke Ott then ripped an RBI double to deep center to give the Falcons the 9-1 lead through seven innings.
The Red Devils though battled back in the top of the seventh. Dickinson scored six runs on four hits, including a two-run home run to reduce the Falcons lead to 9-7 headed into the bottom of the eighth.
The Falcons though looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the eighth.
Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a walk and stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. After a strikeout,
Drew Hurst hit an RBI double to center to push the Falcons lead to three.
Evan Wagaman then hit an RBI double down the left field line to extend the Falcons lead to four. After a
Dustin Isanogle and
Carter Reid walk,
Matt Luchovick stepped up to the plate looking to continue his great day at the plate. Luchovick then ripped a ball over the fence for his fourth home run of the day, a feat that only 18 players in Major League Baseball history have ever achieved.
The Red Devils then scored two runs in the top of the ninth off one hit, but
Julian Butler worked out of a jam to give the Falcons a 15-9 win.
