No. 8 Falcons Earn Sweep in Final Regular Season Conference Game

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The No. 8 Messiah Men's Volleyball team traveled to Arcadia University to take on the Knights in the regular season conference finale. Tyler McConnell led the Falcons with nine kill with Todd Snyder and Ryan Givens adding seven each. Givens and Brayden Parks each finished with four service aces. Brandon Sharp dished out 27 assists. Givens collected five blocks while Jacob Hamm added four. Conner Stauffer led the Falcons with nine digs.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Apr. 5 when they travel to Arlington, Va. to take on Marymount University before beginning conference postseason action the following week.

First Set
Messiah started the day on a six point run that included three kills for Tyler McConnell, a kill for Ryan Givens, and a pair of Knights errors. The teams traded the next five points with Givens picking up a kill before McConnell set Kagoro and Kagoro picked up a kill on an overpass. A solo block by Todd Snyder brought the lead to 11-3 and forced an Arcadia timeout. Out of the break, Brandon Sharp connected with Jacob Hamm for the kill. The Knights picked up a kill and a block before Kagoro knocked down a kill and followed it up with a service ace. A kill by McConnell brought the score to 15-5 in favor of the Falcons. After a Knights point, Sharp connected with Snyder for a kill before Jacob Hamm and Ryan Givens combined for the block to make it 17-6. After trading points, Brayden Parks notched a service ace. A pair of Knights points was followed by a kill for Alex Kagoro from Brandon Sharp, giving Messiah a 20-9 lead. A service error for the Falcons was followed by a block or Givens and Sharp, an ace for Givens and an error for the Knights to make it 23-10. After giving up one more point, a service error from Arcadia and a block for Todd Snyder and Jacob Hamm gave Messiah the 25-11 set one win and 1-0 lead in the match.

Second Set
The Falcons took a 4-0 lead in set two with kills by Ryan Givens and Tyler McConnell from Brandon Sharp and a block from Givens and Sharp. After a kill from Arcadia, McConnell notched another kill before a pair of errors for the Knights and a kill for Brandon Sharp to bring the score to 8-1 and forcing an Arcadia timeout. Out of the timeout, Ryan Givens notched a kill on an overpass before an error returned the ball to the Knights. Messiah was quick to score three as Sharp connected with Givens for a kill followed by a pair of aces for Givens from the service line. Todd Snyder grabbed a kill before a pair of kills for Arcadia. Snyder notched another kill before a block for Jacob Hamm and Snyder followed by a kill for McConnell to bring the Messiah advantage to 16-5. A kill for Snyder was followed by four points for Arcadia as the Knights cut the deficit to seven with the Falcons leading 17-10. After a service error by the Knights, Brayden Parks served three straight aces for the Falcons to bring the score to 21-10. The teams traded a pair of kills each with Tyler McConnell and Ryan Givens notching kills for the Falcons. Arcadia had two kills before Brandon Sharp connected with Todd Snyder for a pair of kills to take set two 25-14 and take the 2-0 lead in the match.

Third Set
The play was more even to begin the third set with the Falcons taking a 7-6 lead after a service ace for Ryan Givens and kills for Todd Snyder and Jacob Hamm from Brandon Sharp. Another kill for Hamm followed by a pair of errors from the Knights extended the Messiah lead to 10-6. Ryan Givens and Alex Kagoro each notched a kill before an error for Arcadia brought the score to 13-9 in favor of the Falcons. A pair of kills for Arcadia was followed by a pair of kills for Hamm from Sharp before a service ace for Kagoro and kill for Brandon Sharp brought the score to 17-11. Hamm notched a kill before Hamm and Givens combined for a block. An Arcadia error gave Messiah a 20-12, causing Arcadia to take a timeout. The Falcons scored a pair on a Knights error and a kill by McConnell from Cooper Henseler. After a pair of Arcadia errors, the Falcons led 24-14. The Knights notched a kill before Jonathan Nixon set Ethan Espenshade for the final kill, giving Messiah the 25-15 set win and 3-0 sweep over Arcadia.
