ANNVILLE, Pa. – On Monday afternoon, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the Players of the Week, for the week ending March 30. The Falcons earned four honors across four sports for the week. Messiah earned MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week honors in Softball and Baseball with
Allie Book and
Evan Wagaman earning honors.
Ryan Givens was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week for Men's Volleyball and
Grace Pettitt earned her second MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week honor in a row.
Allie Book led the Falcons to a 2-2 week with astonishing performances at the plate. In the two games against Catholic, Book had a batting average of over .400 with 2-3 and 3-3 performances for the Junior. Book tallied three doubles between those two games while accounting for one run. In the sweep over Stevenson University, Book finished with a .448 batting average in game one, batting 2-3 from the plate with three runs and one RBI. In the game two 8-0 win, Book went 1-3 from the plate, with one RBI, and one run, batting .443.
Ryan Givens played a key role in the No. 8 Messiah University Falcons pair of conference sweeps over No. 17 Misericordia on Wednesday night and Arcadia on Saturday afternoon. In the win over No. 17 Misericordia, Givens contributed three blocks with four kills and four service aces. In the weekend win over Arcadia, Givens collected five blocks with seven kills and four service aces.
Grace Pettitt continued her offensive prowess with a three goal, three assist performance to lead the Falcons with six points in the 17-10 win over the Stevenson Mustangs on Saturday. Pettitt also contributed two ground balls. This is Pettitt's second straight week earning the honor.
Evan Wagaman led the Falcons with an impressive week, batting .333 with three home runs, a double, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored. Wagaman led off the week with two home runs in the Falcons 5-4 loss in extra innings to the fifteenth-ranked Bullets of Gettysburg College. Wagaman went 2-4 in the Falcons 5-2 win over Stevenson on Friday with a home run and two RBIs. With the two RBIs, Wagaman broke the Messiah program record for career RBIs with 131. Wagaman finished the week with two hits and three RBIs in the Falcons two wins over Stevenson on Saturday.
