CARLISLE, Pa. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team used a 16 run outburst to defeat the Red Devils of Dickinson College, 16-4. The Falcons opened the game with three runs in the top of the first, but Dickinson answered for two in bottom half for what looked like a start to slug fest in Carlisle. The Falcons then scored seven combined runs in the next three innings to jump to a 10-2 lead headed into the fifth inning. After the Falcons had their only scoreless inning of the game so far, the Red Devils looked to battle back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to reduce the Falcons lead to six. The Falcons though scored the final six runs before darkness called the game after the eighth inning, with the Falcons earning a 16-4 win.
Dylan Beard led the Falcons with three hits, including a home run, seven RBIs, and two runs scored.
Evan Wagaman totaled three hits, five RBIs, and three runs scored.
Jarrett Gordon added two hits, and a run scored.
Zachary Harris earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing four runs (two earned), and four strikeouts.
Up next, the Falcons have their first home games of the 2025 season with a doubleheader against the Royals of the University of Scranton on Saturday, March 8. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Messiah 16, Dickinson 4
The Falcons opened the game looking for get on the board early. After a ground out,
Dustin Isanogle and
Drew Hurst walked to put runners on first and second with one out.
Evan Wagaman then hit an RBI single to right to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. After Hurst and Wagaman stole second and third,
Dylan Beard hit a two-RBI single to left to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. The Red Devils though answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs on two hits to reduce the Falcons lead to one.
The Falcons continued the early offense with a three-RBI double from
Evan Wagaman and an RBI double from
Dylan Beard to extend the Falcons lead to 7-2.
Isaiah Parido, and
Drew Hurst each also drew walks in the inning and scored a run.
The Falcons looked to continue to push their lead in the top of the third.
Jarrett Gordon led off the inning with a single and then
Luke Ott singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. After a good defensive play nabbed the Falcons runner at the plate,
Nick Moyer singled, again putting runners on the corners.
Isaiah Parido then hit an RBI single to third to push the Falcons lead to six.
The Falcons offense kept rolling in the top of the fourth. After an
Evan Wagaman single,
Dylan Beard hit a two-run home run to right center to push the Falcons lead to 10-2.
After allowing the two runs in the bottom of the first,
Zachary Harris settled into the game pitching three scoreless innings, while the Falcons poured on seven more runs.
The Falcons finally had a scoreless inning in the top half of the fifth, but the Red Devils scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to reduce the Falcons lead to six.
The Falcons answered back in the top of sixth.
Drew Hurst led off the inning with a walk and then after a strikeout
Dylan Beard reached on an error to put runners on first and second with one out. After the two runners advanced on a stolen base each, Hurst scored on wild pitch to give the Falcons a seven-run lead. After
Matt Luchovick walked and
Jarrett Gordon was hit by a pitch,
Luke Ott hit a sacrifice fly to right, but during the play another Falcons runner was thrown out at the plate to end the threat with the Falcons leading 12-4.
The Falcons offense continued to add on more runs in the top of the seventh. The Falcons totaled only one hit on a
Dustin Isanogle single, but the Falcons were able to score on a fielder's choice from
Evan Wagaman and then a two-run error by the Dickinson short stop off the bat of
Dylan Beard.
Nick Moyer worked a walk in the inning and
Drew Hurst also was hit by a pitch in the inning for the Falcons.
The Falcons added one more run in the top of the eighth on a
Landon Mark RBI single to earn the 16-4 win. The Falcons bullpen ended the game strong with three scoreless innings.
