Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Pride

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team split a doubleheader against the Pride of Widener University with a 9-6 loss in game one and a 13-3 seven-inning win in game two.
In game one, the Pride got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first. The Falcons answered back with a run in the bottom of the first on solo home run from Isaiah Parido to reduce the Pride lead to two. The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the third, including a two-run home run from Isaiah Parido to give the Falcons a 4-3 lead. The Pride scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. The Falcons attempted a rally with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on an Evan Wagaman home run but could not add any more runs and the Pride earned the 9-6 win. Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with three hits, including two home runs, and three RBIs. Evan Wagaman added three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Dylan Beard totaled two hits.
In game two, the Falcons got off to strong start with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. After the Pride scored a run to tie the game in the top of the third, the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead. The Falcons offense stayed on the board in the next four innings, totaling 10 more runs to earn the run-rule 13-3 win. Luke Ott led the Falcons with three hits and five RBIs. David Martinez totaled three hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Drew Hurst added two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.
 
Up next, the Falcons cap off the 2025 regular season with a single game against the Knights of Arcadia University on Tuesday, April 29 at 3:30 p.m.
 
Game One: Widener 9, Messiah 6
The Pride got off to a strong start with three runs on a pair of doubles to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons though answered back with a solo home run from Isaiah Parido to lead off the bottom of the first to reduce the Pride lead to two after the first inning.
 
After a scoreless second and top of the third, the Falcons offense looked to do some more damage in the bottom of the third. Thomas Zeigler led off the inning with a double to left center. After a strikeout, Isaiah Parido hit his second home run of the game to tie the game at three. After Jarrett Gordon reached on a hit by pitch, Drew Hurst reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error by the Pride to put a runner on second with two outs. Evan Wagaman then hit an RBI single into left field to give the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
 
After allowing three runs in the first inning, Christian Foltz settled into the game and threw his third-straight scoreless inning in the fourth to keep the Falcons lead at 4-3 through four innings.
 
The Pride though scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead through five innings.
 
The Falcons kept the Widener offense at bay in the final two top halves to set up a potential comeback for the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh. Jarrett Gordon led off the inning with a double to right center and then advanced to third on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Evan Wagaman homered to right center to reduce the Pride's lead to three. The Falcons though could not get another hit, and the Pride earned the 9-6 win in game one.

Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with three hits, including two home runs, and three RBIs. Evan Wagaman added three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Dylan Beard totaled two hits. Luke Ott pitched 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen with a strikeout. Jadyn Martin also pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen with a strikeout.
 
Game Two: Messiah 13, Widener 3: Final Seven Innings
After a scoreless top of the first, the Falcons looked to take an early lead in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Parido led off the game for the Falcons reaching on a hit by pitch. After two straight strikeouts, Parido advanced to third on an error and a wild pitch. After Evan Wagaman reached on a walk, Dylan Beard reached on an error and Parido came home to score to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
After a scoreless second, the Pride got on the board on an RBI single, but Jason Long worked around some traffic on the bases to keep the score tied. The Falcons though looked to take back the lead in the bottom of the third. After a strikeout, Jarrett Gordon worked a walk and then Drew Hurst singled to right to put runners on the corners with one out. After Evan Wagaman loaded the bases, Dylan Beard hit a sacrifice fly to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. David Martinez then followed the sac fly with an RBI single to push the Falcons lead to 3-1 though three innings.
 
The Falcons looked to keep the offense rolling in the bottom of the fourth. Luke Ott and Nick Moyer led off the fourth with singles to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a pair of outs, Drew Hurst hit an RBI single and then advanced to second to put runners on second and third with two outs. Evan Wagaman then hit a two-RBI single to left to give the Falcons a 6-1 lead.
 
The Falcons continued to add runs in the fifth with an RBI walk from Isaiah Parido and then an RBI ground out from Jarrett Gordon to give the Falcons the 8-1 lead.
 
The Falcons added five more runs in the final two innings to earn the mercy rule, 13-3 win. Luke Ott hit a three-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh, Ott hit a two-RBI single to give the Falcons the win.
