GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team dropped their regular season finale to the ninth-ranked Spartans of York, 18-7. The first quarter was a tight battle with the Spartans taking a 4-2 lead. The Spartans however outscored the Falcons by nine in the second quarter to take a 14-3 lead at the half. The scoring slowed down in the third with both teams scoring one goal to put the score at 15-4 headed into the final quarter. Both teams scored three in the fourth to give the Spartans the 18-7 win.
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with three points on two goals and an assist.
Owen Hammel and
Michael Cook each tallied two points.
Walker Penchansky and
Quentin Davis each tallied a goal.

First Quarter
The Spartans scored two quick goals to give York at 2-0 lead with 13:11 remaining in the first. After some back-and-forth solid defense from both teams, the Spartans scored a man-up goal to take a 3-0 lead with 5:12 remaining in the first. The Falcons though battled back and scored two straight goals from
Bobby Berg and
Michael Cook to reduce the Spartans lead to 3-2 with 3:17 remaining in the first. The Spartans scored a goal with just over a minute remaining in the first to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
The Spartans opened the second quarter strong with seven-straight goals to extend their lead to 11-2 with 5:37 remaining in the half. The Falcons broke the run with a goal from
Bobby Berg to reduce the Spartans lead to eight. The Spartans then ended the half with a 3-0 run to take a 14-3 lead into the half.
Third Quarter
The Spartans opened the second half with a goal just two minutes into the third to take a 15-3 lead. The Falcons scored a goal from
Quentin Davis by
Mason Scott with 7:06 remaining in the third to reduce the Spartans lead to 11. Neither team could add a goal in the final seven minutes and the game remained at 15-4 headed into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons started the fourth strong with two quick goals from
Walker Penchansky and
Michael Cook to reduce the Spartans lead to 15-6. After the Spartans scored a man-up goal three minutes later, the Falcons added another goal from
Owen Hammel to put the score at 16-7. The Spartans scored the final two goals to put the final score at 18-7.
