First Quarter Surge Propels Men’s Lacrosse Past Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team used a seven-goal first quarter to defeat the Blazers of Hood College, 15-7. The Falcons opened the game strong outscoring the Blazers 7-1 in the first quarter to take an early lead. The scoring slowed down in the second with the Falcons outscoring the Blazers by two take a 10-2 lead into the half. Each team scored three goals in the third to put the score at 13-5 headed into the final quarter. The two teams matched each other's goals in the final quarter to give the Falcons the 15-7 win. Bobby Berg led the Falcons with seven points on four goals and three assists. Chad Teresky totaled five points with a hat-trick and two assists. Quentin Davis tallied three points on two goals and an assist.
 
Up next, the Falcons take on the return home to take on the Eagles of Eastern University on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.
 
 First Quarter
After just over four minutes of scoreless play, the Falcons rattled off a 4-0 run to take the lead with 6:33 remaining in the first. Chad Teresky started the run with a goal from Bobby Berg and Quentin Davis ended the run with a goal. After a Hood goal a couple minutes later, The Falcons scored the final three goals of the first to take a 7-1 lead. Bobby Berg led the Falcons during the run with two goals and Owen Hammel added a goal.
 
Second Quarter
The opened the second quarter strong with a Quentin Davis goal from Chad Teresky to push the Falcons lead to seven with 10 minutes remaining in the half. Four minutes later, Bobby Berg added a man-up goal for this third of the half to give the Falcons a 9-1 lead. After a Hood goal with just under two minutes remaining in the second, Ben Ferrell scored the final goal of the half from Berg to put the Falcons up 10-2 at the break.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons started the third strong with a goal from Ben Ferrell in the first 21 seconds of the quarter to push the Falcons lead to nine. The Blazers though looked to battle back in the game and scored three straight goals to reduce the Falcons lead to 11-5 with nine minutes remaining in the third. Bobby Berg broke the Blazers' run with a goal with seven minutes remaining in the third to push the Falcons lead back to seven. After some tight defense, Chad Teresky added his third goal of the day from Jesse Lynch with 13 second remaining in the third to take a 13-5 lead into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Blazers looked for one final comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. The Blazers scored two goals in the first six minutes, but the Falcons scored the final two goals of the game with Dean Gillette and Michael Cook scoring to give the Falcons a 15-7 win.
 
Stats
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with seven points on four goals and three assists. Chad Teresky totaled five points with a hat-trick and two assists. Quentin Davis tallied three points on two goals and an assist. Jesse Lynch, Ben Ferrell, Michael Cook, and Mason Scott each added two points. David Gross led the Falcons defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Ben Antel won 13-of-23 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Jourdain Algarin earned the win in the cage for the Falcons with six saves. Aidan Hickey also earned time in goal for the Falcons.
