MAC Commonwealth Baseball Tournament Preview

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth baseball tournament opens this weekend with the semifinal series. The Falcons earned the top-seed and will take on the Pride of Widener University in a best-of -three series to earn a trip to the MAC Commonwealth Championship series. The Golden Wolves of Alvernia University travel to York for the other semifinal series.
 
Ticket Prices for fans: Adults $8, Seniors (65+) and Youth (7-17) $6. Student with a MAC student ID and children six and under can get in for free. Fans should also note at Messiah, cash only is accepted as payment for tickets and will be collected on site.

No. 1 Messiah University Falcons

27-13 Overall Record, 18-3 MAC Commonwealth

The Falcons earned the top-seed after finishing the 2025 regular season with a 27-13 overall record and a 18-3 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Falcons started the season slow, playing some of the toughest competition in Division III to start the season with a 1-6 record. The Falcons settled into the season winning 11 of their next 12 games. The Falcons finished the season with a 15-6 entering the tournament. The Falcons have also dominated at home with a 15-3 record at Houck Field.
 
The Falcons enter the tournament with the top overall pitching staff in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons lead the MAC Commonwealth with a 4.57 team ERA and 326 strikeouts. The Falcons bats finished the regular season fifth in the MAC Commonwealth with a batting average of .288, but the Falcons led the conference in home runs, (44), RBIs (290), and stolen bases (136).

No. 4 Widener University Pride

20-19 Overall Record, 12-9 MAC Commonwealth

The Pride earned the fourth seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament after finishing the regular season with a 20-19 overall record and a 12-9 record in MAC Commonwealth play. After a 2-5 start the Pride went 11-4 in their next 25 games. The Pride then fell in nine straight games but finished the season strong with a 7-3 record in their last 10 games. The Pride finished the regular season with a 13-11 record away from home.
 
The Prides' offense finished sixth in the MAC Commonwealth with a .270 team batting average. The Pride finished first in the conference with 86 doubles and finished third with 29 home runs. The Prides' pitching staff ranked third in the MAC Commonwealth with a 5.96 ERA. The staff was a pitch to contact staff with 238 strikeouts but finished in second with only 155 walks on the season.

This Season Against the Falcons
The Pride and Falcons played just last weekend with the Falcons taking two games of the three-game set. There were no shortages in offense during the series with 15 or more runs scored in all three matchups.

No. 2 York College Spartans

22-17 Overall Record, 15-6 MAC Commonwealth

The Spartans enter the MAC Commonwealth tournament as the second seed after a 22-17 overall record and a 15-6 record in MAC Commonwealth. The Spartans played a tough opening part of their schedule opening the season with a 3-7 record before conference play began. The Spartans then went 7-3 in their next 10 games, before falling twice to Hood. The Spartans then went 8-5 in their next stretch before an important series against Alvernia. The Spartans swept the series to earn the second seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
 
The Spartans finished second in the MAC Commonwealth with a .294 team batting average this season. The Spartans also finished second in the conference with 33 home runs, 263 RBIs, 381 hits, and 299 runs. The Spartans pitching staff finished fourth in the MAC Commonwealth with a 6.04 ERA. The Spartans staff led the conference with only 128 walks allowed but finished fifth with 254 strikeouts.

This Season Against Messiah
The Falcons took two out the three game series in the regular season against the Spartans. After the Spartans cruised in game one, the Falcons answered back with a 10-3 win in game two. In game three, the scoring was much tighter as the Falcons went on to win 5-3.

No. 3 Alvernia University Golden Wolves

24-16 Overall Record, 14-7 MAC Commonwealth

The Golden Wolves earned the third seed in the MAC Commonwealth tournament after finishing the regular season with a 24-16 overall record and a 14-7 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Golden Wolves opened the season with a 7-5 record before MAC Commonwealth play started. After a four-game skid, the Golden Wolves went on a roll going 16-4 in their next 20 games. The Golden Wolves though enter the tournament with a 1-3 record in their last four games.
 
The Golden Wolves finished the regular season ranked third in the MAC Commonwealth with a .291 team batting average. Even with the high batting average, the Golden Wolves led the conference with 189 walks. The Golden Wolves at the plate, relied more on base hits, rather than power for their runs, as they finished tied for last with 12 home runs on the season, but finished fourth with 73 doubles. The Alvernia pitching staff finished second in the MAC Commonwealth with a 4.77 team ERA. The Golden Wolves also finished second with 292 strikeouts and fourth with 164 walks allowed.

This Season Against Messiah
The Falcons swept the Golden Wolves to open MAC Commonwealth play. The Falcons bats exploded in game one with 16 runs, but game two was a pitcher's duel with the Falcons winning 2-1. Game three the two teams had an offensive battle, but the Falcons earned the 11-8 win.
