SALISBURY, Md. – The Messiah University baseball team used a 7-5 win over the eighth-ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury University in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals game two to advance to the Falcons first ever DIII College World Series appearance in program history. After three innings of scoreless play, the Sea Gulls opened the scoring with a grand slam in the top of the fourth. The Falcons kept battling and in the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons scored three runs with a two-run home run from
Luke Ott to reduce the Sea Gulls lead to one. The Falcons then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh on two hit by pitches and a walk to take a 6-4 lead. The Falcons added another run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run from
Isaiah Parido to give the Falcons a 7-4 lead. The Sea Gulls scored a run in the top of the ninth, but
Daniel Knight got the final three outs to earn the save and the Falcons 7-5 win to advance to their first College World Series in program history.
Luke Ott led the Falcons with a two-run home run and three RBIs.
Carter Reid added two RBIs on a hit by pitch and sacrifice fly.
Isaiah Parido hit a solo home run.
David Martinez added two hits.
Trey Harper earned the win for the Falcons, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one run on a hit, two walks, and three strikeouts.
Daniel Knight earned the save for the Falcons pitching a scoreless ninth.
Up next, the Falcons travel to East Lake, Ohio for the Division III College World Series starting on Friday, May 30 against No. 1 Johns Hopkins University at 1:15 p.m.
Messiah 7, Salisbury 5
Christian Foltz started the game strong for the Falcons on the mound. Foltz threw three scoreless innings to open the game with three strikeouts.
After three scoreless innings, the Sea Gulls scored four runs in the top of the fourth on a grand slam to give Salisbury a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning and top of the sixth, the Falcons looked to cut into their four-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth.
Drew Hurst led off the inning with a walk and then
Evan Wagaman reached second on a throwing error by the Sea Gulls catcher.
Carter Reid then hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to center field to reduce the Sea Gulls lead to 4-1.
Luke Ott then followed up the sacrifice fly with a two-run no doubt home run to right field to cut the Salisbury lead to 4-3 headed into the seventh inning.
After cutting the Salisbury lead to one in the sixth, the Falcons looked to try and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. After a strike out,
Isaiah Parido drew a walk. After another strikeout and a wild pitch,
Drew Hurst reached on a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. After
Evan Wagaman walked,
Carter Reid was hit by a pitch and the tying run came in to score.
Luke Ott then was hit by a pitch and a
Nick Moyer walk, allowed the Falcons to score two more runs and take a 6-4 lead into the eighth.
After a 1-2-3 inning from
Trey Harper in the top of the eighth,
Isaiah Parido ripped a solo home run to right field to extend the Falcons lead to 7-4.
The Sea Gulls scored a run in the top of the ninth, but
Daniel Knight got the final three outs to give the Falcons the 7-5 win and their first trip to the Division III College World Series in program history.
