Offensive Onslaught Leads No. 1 Women’s Soccer Past Lions

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah Women's soccer team defeated the Lions of Penn St. Berks, 7-0. The Falcons got on the board quickly with two goals in the first five minutes by Hannah Adair and Brittany Laird. Hannah Lashley extended the Falcons lead to three before the half with a goal in the 38th minute from Claire Vollmer. The Falcons opened the second half strong with Adair's second goal of the game to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead in the 50th minute. Mia Libby scored a goal in the 56th minute to push the Falcons lead to 5-0. The Falcons added goals from Nikki Davis and Lashley to give the Falcons the 7-0 win.

First Half
The Falcons opened the game controlling possession and looked for an early goal. After a failed clear attempt by the Lions' defense, Lexi Sarago gathered the ball just outside the box and poked a pass forward to Hannah Adair. Adair gathered the ball in the box and ripped a shot into the top-right corner to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in 5th minute. The Falcons then quickly went on the attack once again. After some quick passing in the midfield from Bailie Dull, Addi Martin, and Hannah Adair, Mia Libby sent a through ball into the box to Brittany Laird, who was making a run towards the goal. After a pair of bounces from the ball, Laird sent a one-timer into the bottom-left corner, past a diving Lions' goalkeeper to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute. The Falcons kept control of ball but did not find the back of the net until the 38th minute. After a pair of Falcons won headers after a Lion's goal kick, Nikki Davis sent a pass towards the right corner to Claire Vollmer. Vollmer took a few dribbles and sent a low cross towards the middle of the box. Hannah Lashley then ripped a one-timer that squeaked through the Lions' goalkeepers' hands and into the goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead headed into the break.
 
Second Half
The Falcons continued to push the pace on the offensive end to start the second half. Tahlia Lloyd sent a through ball over the Lions' defense and near the left post. Hannah Adair gathered the pass and sent a shot that bounced off the Lions' goalkeeper and into the goal to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. The Falcons did not wait to add to their lead with a Mia Libby goal in the 56th minute to give the Falcons a five-goal lead. In the 63rd minute, Nikki Davis ripped a shot into the top-left corner of the goal on a pass from Ava Buckwalter to extend the Falcons lead to 6-0. The Falcons added another goal from Hannah Lashley by Tahlia Lloyd to give the Falcons the 7-0 win.
 
Stats
Hannah Adair and Hannah Lashley led the Falcons with two goals each. Nikki Davis, Brittany Laird, and Mia Libby each added a goal for the Falcons. Tahlia Lloyd dished out two assists. Ava Buckwalter, Mia Libby, Lexi Sarago, and Claire Vollmer each added an assist. The Falcons totaled 29 shots with 17 shots on goal. The Falcons defense did not allow a shot from the Lions. The Falcons earned all six corner kicks in the game. Ava Wert earned the win in goal for the Falcons. Izzy Pizzuto played all 45 minutes in the second half in goal for the Falcons.
