Profs Late Goal Downs No. 25 Men’s Soccer

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the twenty-fifth ranked Messiah University men's soccer team fell against the Profs of Rowan University, 4-3, on a goal by the Profs with 24 second remaining in the game. The Falcons controlled possession to start the game, but the Profs got on the board first on a penalty kick goal in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead. After no more goals were added in the first half, the Profs added to their lead in the 49th minute with a goal. The Falcons comeback attempt started on a Davis Pagett goal in the 51st minute to reduce the Profs lead to 2-1. The Profs though extend their lead back to two with a goal in the 67th minute. The Falcons though were not going down without a fight and two-straight goals from Patrick Lee tied the game in the 86th minute. The Profs though scored a goal with 24 seconds remaining in the game to earn the 4-3 win.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Carlisle, Pa. to take on No. 8 Dickinson College on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6:00 p.m.

First Half
The Falcons started the game strong, controlling possession and getting multiple chances on goal. Patrick Lee and Sam Phillips both got shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, but the Profs goalkeeper made two saves to keep the Falcons off the board. The Profs then took the lead in the 29th minute off a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. The Falcons ended the half with two more great chances, but shots on goal from Elijah Perry and Ethan Quadrini both got saved by the Profs goalkeeper.
 
Second Half
The Profs started the second half strong with a goal in the 49th minute to give Rowan a 2-0 lead. After a Davis Pagett shot was saved the Falcons looked to get on the board with a corner kick in the 50th minute. The corner was sent to the near post and Pagett gathered the ball and ripped a shot past the Profs goalkeeper into the bottom-right corner of the goal to reduce the Profs lead to one. The Falcons continued on the attack to try and tie the game, but the Profs goalkeeper made two saves on shots from Pagett and Caleb Daniels to keep the Profs lead. The Profs then added another goal in the 67th minute to extend their lead to 3-1. The Falcons looked to start the comeback in the 77th minute. Matt Griffin started the play in the defensive end, sending a long ball up to Patrick Lee. After the ball bounced off a couple of players, Grant Shreiner gathered the ball and dribbled towards the box. Shreiner then poked a pass past a sliding Profs' goalkeeper and too a wide-open Patrick Lee, who sent a shot into an open net to reduce the Profs lead to one. The Falcons still looked to tie the game in the 86th minute. Jordan Gilman sent a pass towards to far corner to Davis Pagett. Pagett sent a low cross in front of the goal, and Lee sent a sliding shot into the back of the goal to tie the game at three. The Profs though scored the game-winner with 24 second remaining on a header in the box to earn the 4-3 win.  
 
Stats
Patrick Lee led the Falcons with two goals. Davis Pagett tallied a goal and an assist. Grant Shreiner tallied an assist. The Falcons totaled 18 shots with 10 shots on goal. The Profs tallied 10 shots with four shots on goal. Messiah earned 12 penalty kicks to the Profs two. Kessler Forrest earned the start in goal for the Falcons.
