Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest At York

YORK, Pa. – The Messiah Men's Basketball traveled to York College on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to the Spartans 94-62. The teams traded baskets during the first ten minutes of the first half, but York pulled away to take a commanding lead into the break. The Spartans kept their foot on the gas in the second half, finishing off a comfortable win. Caleb Lyles led the Falcons with 22 points. Myles Herbert had 11 points, and Johnny McBride had seven points with eight rebounds and four blocks.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to St. Davids, Pa. for a matchup against the Eastern Eagles on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
 
First Half
Caleb Lyles and Myles Herbert scored two quick buckets to give Messiah the first points of the day and a 4-0 lead. Ben Wert added a basket, but York started to get their offense rolling, taking a 9-7 lead with 15:41 to play in the half. Michael Bischoping and Avery Kopcha both got in on the action over the next few minutes for Messiah, with the game tied 13-13. York outscored Messiah 7-2 during the next run of play to take a 20-15 lead, but after drawing a foul and finishing at the rim, Jordan Edwards-Saliu finished the three-point play to make it 20-18 with 9:39 left in the half. The Spartans then began to take hold of the game, going a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to make it 35-22 in favor of York College. Johnny McBride, Caleb Lyles, and Myles Herbert all scored in the last three minutes of the half, but the Spartans kept firing on offense, taking a 15-point lead into the half, up 45-30.
 
Second Half
Caleb Lyles had a good start to the second half for Messiah, scoring five points in the first two minutes. Over the next five minutes, Myles Herbert, Johnny McBride, and Lyles all scored for the Falcons, but the Spartans still led, up 59-42. Lyles, Herbert, and McBride all continued to score for Messiah, with Avery Kopcha grabbing a bucket as well, but the Spartans kept pushing, leading 75-51 with 7:06 left in the game. Jordan Edwards-Saliu, Ben Wert, and Paul Coty IV all added points for the Falcons, but the Spartans lead continued to grow, with the score sitting at 89-59 with 3:33 left in the game. Declan Hersh and Peyton Rummler both scored in the final few minutes, but the Spartans held on to win 94-62.

Jordan Edwards-Saliu had five points and team-high 12 rebounds. The Falcons shot 35.9 percent from the field and 5.3 percent from three.
