First Quarter Surge Leads Falcons Past Eagles

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Falcons used a dominant first quarter to defeat the Eagles of Eastern University, 78-40. The Falcons opened the game strong, outscoring the Eagles, 26-3 in the first quarter. The Falcons outscored the Eagles by five in the second to take a 45-17 lead at the half. The Falcons continued to roll in the second half and outscored the Eagles by 10 to earn the 78-40 win. Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 27 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and two steals. Hope Cook totaled eight points and three assists. Maddy Gassman added seven points and two assists.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with a 17-3 run in the first five minutes of the game. Liv Monturo led the Falcons with nine points and Hope Cook and Charlotte Milanesi each added a three for the Falcons during the run. The Falcons continued their first quarter dominance with nine-straight points to end the first quarter with a commanding 26-3 lead. Brooke Fenchel scored five points and Marisa Amitie and Ainsley Bell each added two points for the Falcons during the final stretch of the first.
 
Second Quarter
Both teams opened the second scoring six points each in the first three minutes to hold the Falcons lead at 23. Hope Cook and EmmyFaith Wood each drained a three for the Falcons during the stretch. The Falcons then outscored the Eagles 9-5 in the next three minutes to push the Falcons lead to 27 with four minutes remaining in the half. Liv Monturo led the Falcons with six points during the run. The Falcons then outscored the Eagles 4-3 to close out the half with a 45-17 lead. Monturo scored all four points for the Falcons in the final stretch of the half.
 
Third Quarter
The Eagles opened the third, outscoring the Falcons 10-6 in the first five minutes of the third to reduce the Falcons lead to 51-27. Liv Monturo scored all six points for the Falcons during the Eagles run. The Falcons then finished the third with a 9-5 run to take a 60-32 lead into the fourth quarter. Ainsley Bell capped off the Falcons run with a three at the buzzer.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with an 8-4 run to extend their lead to 32 with five minutes remaining in the game. Alison Jensen started the run with a basket and Maddy Gassman ended the run with a layup. The Falcons ended the game with a 10-4 run to earn the 78-40 win. The Falcons final run was highlighted by a three from Emma Fetterman and a jumper by Kirsten Parypinski.

Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 27 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and two steals. Hope Cook totaled eight points and three assists. Maddy Gassman added seven points and two assists. Ainsley Bell totaled six points, four rebounds, and two steals. Brooke Fenchel, Charlotte Milanesi, and EmmyFaith Wood each added five points. The Falcons shot 50 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three. The Eagles shot 23.3 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from three.
