OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Messiah Men's Basketball fell on the road Saturday night to the Mustangs of Stevenson University, 84-63. The Falcons started strong, leading halfway through the first half, but a big scoring run gave the Mustangs a comfortable lead, which they would hold onto the rest of the game.
Caleb Lyles had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Myles Herbert had 12 points and five rebounds.
Johnny McBride had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Frederick, Md. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7:00 p.m. for a matchup at Hood College.
First Half
Buckets from
Myles Herbert and
Johnny McBride, plus two free throws from
Caleb Lyles, gave the Falcons a 6-3 lead five minutes into the game. Over the next three minutes, Lyles and Herbert both hit threes for the Falcons, and Lyles added four more points in the paint and at the line to give Messiah a 16-9 lead. Herbert hit another three just over a minute later to put the Falcons up by eight, 19-11, but am 8-0 run by the Mustangs would get them right back in it.
Jordan Edwards-Saliu scored in the paint with 7:35 to play to make it 21-18 Messiah, but Stevenson would take over to close out the half, outscoring the Falcons 21-7 over the final seven minutes, taking a 39-28 lead into the half.
Freddy Herbst and
Miles Longacre both got on the board for the Falcons during the closing moments of the half.
Second Half
Myles Herbert,
Johnny McBride, and
Caleb Lyles all scored early in the half, but the Mustangs lead grew to over 20, with Stevenson leading 55-34 with 13:14 left in the half.
Freddy Herbst and
Paul Coty IV put points on the board for Messiah, but the Stevenson lead grew to 25 points with 9:19 to play. Coty IV got another bucket for the Falcons and
Jordan Edwards-Saliu scored five points for Messiah over the next few minutes, but the Mustangs continued to extend their lead.
Caleb Lyles,

Quint Fryer, and
Jack Rushe all scored for Messiah in the final five minutes, but Stevenson held on to win, 84-63.
