ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The No. 6 ranked Messiah Men's Volleyball team traveled to Eastern University on Thursday night to continue conference play. Messiah moved to 2-0 in Conference play after set scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20, claiming their second sweep in as many games.
Alex Kagoro led all players with 29 kills while
Jake Eby added 14. Kagoro hit .586 on the night while Eby finished at .765.
Tyler McConnell collected nine digs with seven kills.
Todd Snyder collected four blocks while adding seven kills.
Brandon Sharp totaled 41 assists in the win.
The Falcons travel to Ashland, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 28, to take on the Eastern Mennonite University Royals at 3:00 p.m. and the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. at Randolph-Macon.
First Set
Brandon Sharp connected with
Tyler McConnell for the first Falcons point before Eastern took a 3-1 lead. Messiah then scored five straight that included a kill from
Alex Kagoro, a solo block from
Todd Snyder, and a service ace from McConnell to give Messiah the 6-3 lead. After a kill for Snyder, the Eagles tied it 7-7. Sharp connected with Kagoro and
Tyler Good for kills before
Jake Eby set McConnell for a kill that extended the lead to 11-8. The Eagles notched it at 11-11 before the teams traded kills with
Todd Snyder tallying one and
Alex Kagoro tallying a pair for a 15-14 lead. After the Eagles took an 18-16 lead, Messiah again claimed five straight with a kill for Kagoro from Sharp, a service ace from Good, and a kill from
Jake Eby on an overpass gave Messiah a 21-18 lead, forcing an Eastern timeout. Out of the break, a pair of Eastern errors and a kill for
Tyler McConnell gave Messiah the 24-18 lead. After a kill for the Eagles, an Eastern error gave Messiah the 25-19 first set win, and 1-0 lead in the match.
Second Set
Eastern took a 5-2 lead early in the second set with
Alex Kagoro notching a pair of kills from
Brandon Sharp. Sharp connected with
Jake Eby for back-to-back kills before a kill for Kagoro from
Tyler Good brought the score to 6-6. Messiah took a 9-7 lead with a kill from Kagoro, a service ace from
Sean Gillespie, and a kill for
Tyler McConnell. After an Eastern timeout, the Eagles notched a block before a service error and block from Kagoro and Snyder extended the lead to 11-8. Kagoro tallied another pair of kills and Snyder added one before an Eastern error to give Messiah the 15-10 lead. The Eagles scored three to cut the deficit to two before
Alex Kagoro and
Jake Eby tallied kills to bring the score to 17-14. As the Falcons and Eagles traded points, Eby, McConnell, and Snyder each tallied kills as the Falcons took a 21-18 lead. After an Eagles error and Eagles timeout,
Todd Snyder notched a solo block for a 23-18 score.
Alex Kagoro and
Tyler Good each tallied kills as the Falcons took set two 25-20, holding a 2-0 match advantage.
Third Set
Brandon Sharp found
Tyler McConnell for the opening point of set three before the Eagles scored a pair. A
Todd Snyder block and kill from
Alex Kagoro brought the score to 3-3. Kagoro tallied a pair of kills before an Eastern run gave the Eagles an 8-5 lead. Sharp connected with
Jake Eby for a kill before finding Snyder then Kagoro to cut the deficit to two. A pair of kills for Snyder brought the score to 11-10 in favor of Eastern before a kill for Eby and an error for Eastern notched the score at 12-12. Messiah took a 16-15 lead as
Tyler McConnell,
Jake Eby, and
Alex Kagoro each tallied kills. A pair of Eastern errors extended the Messiah lead to 18-16 before Kagoro and Eby each added kills for the 20-17 lead.
Brandon Sharp connected with Eby for a pair of kills before an Eagles error led to a 23-19 advantage for the Falcons and an Eastern timeout. Out of the break, Sharp found Eby to bring it to match point at 24-19. After a service error, Sharp once again found Eby as Messiah took set three 25-20 and earned the 3-0 match sweep.
