GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 6 Messiah Men's Volleyball team hosted the Blazers of Hood College on Thursday night for MAC action on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena. Messiah earned another conference sweep with set scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-17.
Connor Himelfarb led all players with 10 kills, hitting .714 on the night.
Everett Macurda added nine kills.
Adam McGarvey dished out 27 assists and added four service aces.
Seth Rajnic totaled three blocks and Himelfarb added a pair.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, March 7, when they host Widener University at 12:00 p.m. and No. 20 Vassar College at 2:30 p.m. on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.
First Set
The Falcons opened action with a kill for
Sean Gillespie from
Adam McGarvey before some back-and-forth play. Messiah then tallied five in a row with kills from
Everett Macurda and
Connor Himelfarb and a string of errors for the Blazers. Messiah extended their lead to 8-4 with a kill for
Seth Rajnic. After trading points,
Sean Gillespie found
Adam McGarvey for a kill before McGarvey made a successful setter dump for a 12-6 lead. After three for the Blazers, Messiah scored five with kills from Gillespie and Macurda and a pair of service aces for McGarvey extended the Messiah lead to 17-9, forcing a Hood timeout. McGarvey found
Jonathan Nixon for a kill before the teams traded points.
Connor Himelfarb tallied a pair of kills split with a block from Himelfarb and
Seth Rajnic. With a 22-12 lead, McGarvey found Himelfarb then Rajnic for kills before a kill for
Connor Himelfarb from
Sean Gillespie gave Messiah the 25-13 set one win and a 1-0 match lead.
Second Set
The Blazers tallied the first point of the second set before
Adam McGarvey found
Everett Macurda for the kill.
Jonathan Nixon and
Ethan Espenshade each tallied kills before an error from the Blazers gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead. The Falcons and Blazers traded points before four straight for the Falcons including a kill from Macurda and a service ace for
Seth Rajnic. A solo block for
Adam McGarvey, a kill on an overpass for
Everett Macurda, and a service ace for McGarvey gave Messiah a 12-6 lead. Messiah extended their lead to 14-7 with a pair of errors from the Blazers. The teams traded points before a kill from
Everett Macurda an error from the Blazers and a kill for
Seth Rajnic on an overpass gave Messiah an 18-11 lead. Hood tallied three straight kills before an error for Hood followed by a kill for
Connor Himelfarb gave Messiah a 20-14 lead. After a second Himelfarb kill, Hood scored a pair to bring the score to 21-17 in favor of the Falcons.

Jonathan Nixon gave Messiah the 25-19 set two win and 2-0 lead in the match.
Third Set
Messiah opened the third set with kills from
Jonathan Nixon and
Connor Himelfarb for an early 2-0 lead. They were quick to extend the lead when
Adam McGarvey found
Everett Macurda for a kill and Himelfarb tallied an ace. A kill from Macurda and block from
Ethan Espenshade and
Seth Rajnic extended the Messiah lead to 6-2. Espenshade tallied a kill before the Blazers scored two. McGarvey connected with Rajnic before an error from the Blazers and a service ace for Espenshade gave the Falcons a 10-5 lead. Messiah continued to extend their lead with Himelfarb and Nixon tallying kills and McGarvey adding a service ace for a 15-7 lead. The teams traded points before a kill for

Adam McGarvey brought the score to 20-11 in favor of Messiah.
Connor Himelfarb and
Seth Rajnic combined for a block before Himelfarb added a kill for a 23-14 lead. After trading service errors, an attack error from the Blazers gave Messiah the 25-17 third set win and the 3-0 sweep.
