VIERA, Fla. – The Messiah Softball team began their Spring break slate of games on Saturday, falling in two close games, first to New England College (2-1) and then Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (3-1). In game one, the Falcons struggled to find they key hit in a pitchers dual, with
Brielle Rosario's solo homerun giving Messiah their only run. For game two, the Falcons fell 3-1 in another well-pitched contest. RPI scored three runs in the fourth to get the win.

Game One: Messiah – 1, New England College – 2
New England took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and a leadoff walk and base hit. Messiah looked to respond quick, with
Brielle Rosario drawing a walk and swiping second.
Fallon Feaser also walked in the inning, but the Falcons couldn't get the tying run home.
After a 1-2-3 top of the second from
Fallon Feaser,
Rebekah Wiley singled to start the bottom half, quickly followed by a hit from
McKenna Bunting, but the Falcons failed to find the clutch hit with runners in scoring position.
Feaser retired 9 of the next 10 batters, as a pitchers dual kept the score at 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of fifth,
Brielle Rosario came up to bat with one out, getting a hold of one and sending in over the left field wall to tie the game, 1-1.
After a quick top of the sixth, Messiah looked to take their first lead late in the game.
Allie Book walked to lead off the inning, and
Ashley Bryant slapped a one-out single to right to give the Falcons two runners on base. However, Messiah couldn't find the breakthrough hit to take the lead.
New England College used three hits to score one run to get their lead back, making it 2-1 heading to bottom half of the seventh. The Falcons couldn't get on base, dropping the close game.
Stats
Brielle Rosario had the lone run and RBI for Messiah, hitting her first homerun of the season.
Fallon Feaser had a hit and six strikeouts in the circle.
Rebekah Wiley,
Ashley Bryant, and
McKenna Bunting all added hits for Messiah.
Game 2: Messiah – 1, RPI – 3
Brielle Rosario started the game with a leadoff single, followed by a single from
Lucy Murphy to give Messiah two runners on base. After both runners advanced,
Allie Book knocked an RBI single through the infield to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless bottom of the first for RPI, the pitchers took control.
Ava Fair picked up a single in the top of the third, but Messiah couldn't add on an insurance run. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth, when RPI scored three runs on three hits and on error to take a 3-1 lead.
Throughout the final three innings, RPI added the only other hit in the game, coming away with the 3-1 win.
