Messiah Baseball Takes Down Lions

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Friday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team defeated the Lions of Albright College, 1-0. The Lions jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but Drew Hurst hit a solo home run in the bottom half to cut the Lions lead to three after the first inning. After the Lions scored a run in the top of the second, the Falcons scored four in the bottom half, capped off by a three-run home run from Isaiah Parido to tie the game at five. The Falcons scored a run in the fourth and the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. The Lions scored a run in the top of the seventh, but neither team scored another run and the Falcons earned the 7-6 win. Drew Hurst led the Falcons with three hits, including a solo home run. David Martinez totaled two hits and two runs. Isaiah Parido added a hit and four RBIs.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Albright College in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.

Messiah 7, Albright 6
The Lions opened the game strong with four runs in the top of the first to take the early lead.
 
The Falcons responded in the bottom first with a solo home run from Drew Hurst to cut the Lions lead to three.
 
The Lions continued their strong start with an RBI double in the top of the second to push their lead back to four.
 
The Falcons looked to again respond in the bottom of the second. Nick Moyer led off the inning with a double and then advanced to third on a balk. After a flyout, Matt Luchovick hit a sacrifice fly to right to cut the Lions lead to three. David Martinez singled and then Kyler Parks singled and advanced to second on an error to put runners on second and third with two outs. Isaiah Parido then hit a no-doubt home run to right center to tie the game at five.
 
After a scoreless third, the Falcons looked to take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth. After a flyout, David Martinez reached on a hit by pitch. After Martinez stole second, Kyler Parks walked to put runners on first and second with one out. After the two runners stole second and third, Isaiah Parido hit a sacrifice fly to left field to take a 6-5 lead.
 
After Daniel Knight threw his third-straight scoreless inning on the mound for the Falcons, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a flyout, Landon Mark walked and then stole second. After a strikeout, Carter Reid hit an RBI double to left to give the Falcons a 7-5 lead through five innings.
 
After a scoreless sixth, the Lions scored a run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to cut the Falcons lead to 7-6.
 
Trey Harper threw two scoreless innings out of the pen to close out the game strong and five the Falcons the 7-6 win.

Drew Hurst led the Falcons with three hits, including a solo home run. David Martinez totaled two hits and two runs. Isaiah Parido added a hit and four RBIs. Carter Reid also added a hit and an RBI. Daniel Knight earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, battling through seven innings, allowing six runs on six hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Trey Harper earned the save pitching two scoreless innings to close the game.
