YORK, Pa. – On Thursday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team used a complete game from
Daniel Knight and some late runs to defeat the Spartans of York College, 7-1. After three and a half scoreless innings, the Spartans got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Falcons responded with two runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The Falcons scored two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 4-1. The Falcons added three more insurance runs in the eighth to earn the 7-1 win.
Daniel Knight pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.
Drew Hurst totaled three hits and two RBIs.
Cristian Reyna tallied two hits and an RBI.
Nick Moyer added an RBI double.

After 3 and a half scoreless innings, the Spartans got on the board first with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead through four innings.
The Falcons looked to answer the Spartans run in the top of the fifth.
Cristian Reyna led off the inning with a single and then
Drew Hurst walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. After two-straight outs,
Matt Luchovick brought in a run on an error by the Spartans to tie the game at one. Luchovick stole second and on the steal, Hurst stole second to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead headed into the bottom of the fifth.
After two more scoreless innings from
Daniel Knight on the mound, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the top of the seventh.
Drew Hurst led off the inning with a double to left. After
Luke Ott moved Hurst over with a ground out,
Nick Moyer hit an RBI double down the left field line to push the Falcons lead to two.
Matt Luchovick then reached on an error and scored Moyer to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead.
The Falcons looked to add to their lead in the top of the eighth.
David Martinez led off the inning reaching second on a throwing error by the Spartans short stop. After
Kyler Parks advanced Martinez to third on a ground out,
Isaiah Parido walked to put runners on first third with one out.
Cristian Reyna then hit a double down the left-field line to push the Falcons lead to four.
Drew Hurst followed the double with a two-RBI double of his own to give the Falcons a 7-1 lead.
Daniel Knight finished his complete game with a scoreless eighth and ninth to earn the 7-1 win.
