GRANTHAM, Pa – The Messiah Softball team was back in MAC Commonwealth action this afternoon, sweeping the Blazers of Hood College to move to 6-0 in conference play. In game one, the Falcons gave up four runs early, but the bats got hot as the game went along, with the Falcons winning 12-5. In game two, the Falcons went down early once again but used a three-run fourth inning to take a shortened game due to darkness, winning 6-4 in five innings.
Up next, the Falcons travel to York College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 4, at 12:00 p.m.
Game One: Messiah – 12, Hood – 5
After a 1-2-3 top of the first in the circle for
Fallon Feaser,
Brielle Rosario got on base with a leadoff single, but the Falcons couldn't get on the board in the inning.
In the top of the second, the Blazers jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs on four hits and one Falcons error. The Falcons looked to get back into it quickly, with
Lucy Murphy drawing a one-out walk and
Ashley Bryant singling to give Messiah two baserunners. The pair then successfully executed a double steal to give the Falcons two runners in scoring position.
Josi Tolentino then grounded out to second, but
Lucy Murphy scored on the play to make it 4-1.
Fallon Feaser got two strikeouts in a quick third inning, and then Feaser got on base with a one-out single in the bottom half of the inning. Rebakah Wiley got hit by a pitch to reach first, and
Lucy Murphy singled, scoring Feaser and Wiley after an error in center field that allowed Murphy to reach third.
Ashley Bryant then singled up the middle to score Murphy, tying the game 4-4.
Josi Tolentino picked up a two-out single, but the Falcons failed to take the lead.
Fallon Feaser pitched another 1-2-3 inning in the circle and singled in the bottom half of the fourth, but Messiah failed to score.
Hood took the lead again after scoring one run on one hit in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half,
Rebekah Wiley singled to lead off the inning, and
Lucy Murphy reached base on an error.
Rebekah Wiley then scored on a grounder from
Ashley Bryant. After
Josi Tolentino got on base with a walk,
Asia Harding sent a two-RBI triple into right field to give Messiah a 7-5 lead.
Ava Fair followed with an RBI single to make it 8-5.
After another 1-2-3 inning for
Fallon Feaser,
Rebekah Wiley walked and
Ashley Bryant singled to give the Falcons two runners with one out.
Josi Tolentino sent an RBI single up the middle, followed by an RBI single from
Asia Harding to make it 10-5.
Ava Fair then singled to score Tolentino, and Harding scored on a sacrifice fly from
Fallon Feaser to give Messiah a 12-5 lead.
Fallon Feaser picked up her ninth strikeout of the game in a scoreless seventh to see out the 12-5 win.

Game Two: Messiah – 6, Hood – 4 (5 inn.)
The Blazers scored three runs on one hit in the top of the first to take an early lead.
Brielle Rosario walked to begin the bottom half of the inning.
Mia Libby then came in to pinch run, stealing second to move into scoring position.
Fallon Feaser then sent a two-run homerun to left center field to get the Falcons on the board.
Hood responded well in the second, adding a fourth run on one hit to make it 4-2.
After a 1-2-3 third in the circle for
Kelli Durbin,
Fallon Feaser sent a one-out single into center field in the bottom half of the inning. Rebekah then singled to move Feaser to third, who then scored after
Lucy Murphy reached on an error to third base, to make it 4-3.
After another scoreless inning for
Kelli Durbin,
Josi Tolentino sent the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the fourth over the left field wall to tie the game, 4-4.
Kelli Durbin singled to the shortstop and
Brielle Rosario followed with a walk to give the Falcons two baserunners. Both runners then advanced into scoring position, and
Fallon Feaser scored Durbin on a sacrifice fly.
Allie Book then doubled to right field to score
Brielle Rosario, making it 6-4, Messiah.
Kelli Durbin pitched a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, giving Messiah the win in a game shortened due to darkness.
