Parido’s Walk Off Home Run Pushes Falcons Past Knights

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team used a four-run ninth inning, capped off by a three-run walk off home run from Isaiah Parido to defeat the Knights of Arcadia University, 8-7. The Falcons opened the game with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights responded with a run in the top of the second to tie the game at one. After a scoreless third, the Knights scored two in the fourth, but the Falcons scored a run in the bottom half to cut the Arcadia lead to one through four innings. The Knights scored two runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 5-2 through five innings. Both teams scored a run in the seventh, but the Falcons added another in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Knights lead to 6-4 headed into the final frame. The Knights scored a run in the top of the ninth to increase their lead to 7-4 headed into the bottom of the ninth. After a Kyler Parks sacrifice fly cut the Knights lead to two, Isaiah Parido ripped a three-run home run to right field to give the Falcons the 8-7 win. Landon Mark led the Falcons with four hits and an RBI. Isaiah Parido totaled two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Drew Hurst added a hit and an RBI.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Friday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m.

Messiah 8, Arcadia 7
After a scoreless top of the first, the Falcons looked to get on the board first in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Parido walked and after a strikeout, Parido stole second. After a Drew Hurst ground out advanced Parido to third, Landon Mark ripped an RBI single to right to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
The Knights answered back with a run in the top of the second to tie the game at one.
 
After a scoreless third from Kolten Martin on the mound for the Falcons, the Knights scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
 
The Falcons looked to answer the Knights two-run inning in the bottom half. Matt Luchovick and Nick Moyer led the off the inning with walks and then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. David Martinez then hit an RBI ground out to cut the Knights lead to one through four innings.
 
The Knights then scored two runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 5-2.
 
After a scoreless sixth, the Knights scored a run on an RBI ground out in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 6-2.
 
The Falcons offense looked to get back on track in the bottom of the seventh. After a pair of strikeouts, Landon Mark hit a double off the center field wall to give the Falcons a runner in scoring position with two outs. After a Carter Reid walk and a Nick Moyer hit by pitch, Matt Luchovick walked with the bases loaded to cut the Knights' lead to 6-3 headed into the eighth.
 
After a scoreless inning from Walker Cloudt on the mound, the Falcons offense looked to keep the momentum going in the bottom of the eighth. After a fly out, Isaiah Parido singled through the right side. After Parido stole second and a lineout to center, Drew Hurst tripled down the right field line to cut the Knights lead 6-4 headed into the ninth.
 
The Knights scored a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to push their lead back to three headed into the final frame.
 
The Falcons looked for a late rally in the bottom of the ninth trailing by three. Carter Reid led off the inning reaching on a hit by pitch and then Nick Moyer singled to short. Matt Luchovick then walked to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Kyler Parks hit a sacrifice fly to left to put the winning run at the plate with two outs. Isaiah Parido then hit a no-doubt three run home run to give the Falcons the 8-7 win.

Landon Mark led the Falcons with four hits and an RBI. Isaiah Parido totaled two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Drew Hurst added a hit and an RBI. Walker Cloudt earned the win with three innings out of the bullpen, allowing only one run with two strikeouts.
