Dominant Overall Effort Leads Falcons Past Pride

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team used a dominant overall effort to defeat the Pride of Widener University, 18-3. After a slow start to the game, the Falcons outscored the Pride 5-1 to take a four-goal lead headed into the second. The Falcons outscored the Pride by four in the second to extend their lead to 10-2 at the half. The Falcons continued to roll in the third, outscoring the Pride, 4-0 to take a 14-2 lead headed into the fourth. The Falcons closed the game, outscoring the Pride by three to earn the 18-3 win. Bobby Berg and Michael Cook led the Falcons with four goals and an assist each. Owen Hammel, Rowan Foster, and Quinn Foster each tallied three points. Jourdain Algarin earned the win with 10 saves.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Owings Mills, Md. to take on the Mustangs of Stevenson University in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal game on Wednesday, April 29 with time still to be determined.
 
First Quarter
After almost eight minutes of scoreless play to open the game, Walker Penchansky broke the scoreless tie with a goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons then finished the first with a 4-1 run to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first. Owen Hammel started the run with a goal from Quinn Foster and Michael Cook capped off the run with a buzzer beater goal.
 
Second Quarter
The Falcons started the second with four quick goals to push the Falcons lead to 9-1 with 11:30 remaining in the half. Bobby Berg, Michael Cook, Noah Hauf, and Brayden Kuhar each scored for the Falcons during the stretch. After a Pride goal with 5:30 remaining in the second, Berg scored a goal to give the Falcons a 10-2 lead at the half.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons opened the third strong with a goal from Bobby Berg and Quentin Davis to extend the Falcons lead to 12-2 with 11 minutes remaining in the quarter. After nine minutes of scoreless play, Davis and Rowan Foster both scored to push the Falcons lead to 14-2 headed into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth strong with three unanswered goals in the first five minutes to take a 17-2 lead. Trey Bui, Michael Cook, and Quinn Foster each scored for the Falcons during the stretch. Each team added a goal the rest of the way with Rowan Foster scoring for the Falcons to put the final score at 18-3.

Bobby Berg and Michael Cook led the Falcons with four goals and an assist each. Owen Hammel, Rowan Foster, and Quinn Foster each tallied three points. Adam Nielsen and Walker Penchansky each led the Falcons defense with two caused turnovers. Zach Sebra won 11 faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls. Noah Hauf was all over the field, with a caused turnover, four ground balls, three faceoff wins, and a goal scored. Jourdain Algarin earned the win with 10 saves.
