GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Women's Volleyball team was back in action today for day two of the Messiah Invitational, starting the day against the Barons of Franciscan University and finishing the day against the Bullets of Gettysburg College, with the Falcons dropping both games.
In game one, the Falcons fell to Barons in three sets (23-25, 18-25, 22-25). After a back and forth first set, the Barons used a late run to pull away. The Barons then took that momentum into the second set, controlling it the entire way. Finally, the Barons took the third set to complete the sweep.
Sydney Wolfe led the Falcons 13 kills.
Kayla Batty and
Makenzie Adams each tallied eight kills.
Clara Conner added 30 assists and 15 digs.
In game two, the Falcons couldn't crack the Bullets, falling in four sets (25-17, 10-25, 20-25, 13-25). The Falcons. Came out firing in the first set to take it, but the Bullets responded with a dominant second set to tie the match. Gettysburg won a closer third set and then rolled in the fourth to win.
Sydney Wolfe led the Falcons with 11 kills.
Makenzie Adams totaled 23 assists and 15 digs.
Lexi Hetrick added seven kills.

Game One: Messiah – 0, Franciscan – 3
Set One
Two early kills from
Sydney Wolfe, plus one kill each from
Leah Youtzy and
Kayla Batty, gave Messiah a 5-2 lead. The Barons began to pick up some momentum, winning five of the next seven points to tie the set, 7-7. Messiah then won seven of the next nine points behind multiple kills from
Sydney Wolfe and
Makenzie Adams, with
Kayla Batty and
Hannah MacCartney also picking up kills. Adams quickly added two more kills, with the Falcons leading 18-13. The Barons responded well, winning five of the next seven points to make it 20-18, Messiah. The Barons then took control of the set, winning five straight points to take a 23-20 lead.
Kayla Batty and
Sydney Wolfe each tallied kills as the Falcons responded with a three-point swing to tie the set, but the Barons won the final two points to take the set, 25-23.
Set Two
Sydney Wolfe grabbed three kills for the Falcons as the teams battled to a 6-6 tie.
Makenzie Adams added a kill, but the Barons began to build a lead, up 14-10.
Sydney Wolfe picked up three more kills for the Falcons; however, the Barons took command of the set with a five-point run to take a 23-14 lead.
Leah Youtzy tacked on a kill and
Kayla Batty dropped in an ace, but Franciscan finished the set, winning 25-18.
Set Three
Franciscan took a quick 3-0 lead to start the set. The Falcons then won five straight points, with
Kayla Batty tallying two kills, and
Makenzie Adams and
Sydney Wolfe each adding one. Batty added another kill and
Leah Youtzy tacked on two kills to give Messiah a 10-8 lead.
Lexi Hetrick added two kills for the Falcons, but the Barons tied the set 13-13. The teams began trading points, with
Sydney Wolfe and
Leah Youtzy picking up a double block, while Youtzy and
Kayla Batty each tacked on kills, with the teams tied 17-17. Wolfe also grabbed a kill, and
Lexi Hetrick tallied two kills of her own, but the Barons held a 22-20 lead late in the set.
Sydney Wolfe picked up two blocks, one with
Hannah MacCartney and one with
Leah Youtzy, but the Barons finished the set, 25-22, winning the match in straight sets.

Set One
Makenzie Adams dropped in two service aces as the Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Falcons continued rolling, with
Kayla Batty and
Lexi Hetrick each picking up kills,
Sydney Wolfe adding two kills, and
Claire Marzolino dropping in a service ace as the Falcons led 12-4.
Erin Eby added an ace and
Sydney Wolfe picked up another kill, with the Falcons still leading, 18-11, late in the set. The Falcons kept their foot on the gas to win the set 25-17, with
Lexi Hetrick,
Sydney Wolfe,
Leah Youtzy, and
Kayla Batty adding one more kill each.
Set Two
Hannah MacCartney picked up two kills and
Sydney Wolfe added one, with the two also combining for a block while the Bullets held an early 7-6 lead. Gettysburg then took over the set, winning 12 of the next 14 points, with
Makenzie Adams tallying two kills for Messiah during this stretch. Adams and
Kayla Batty each added one more kill in the late stage of the set, but the Bullets took it 25-10.
Set Three
Makenzie Adams dropped in an ace and
Kayla Batty tallied a quick kill as the teams went back and forth to a Bullets 3-2 lead.
Hannah MacCartney and
Lexi Hetrick added kills to give Messiah a 4-3 advantage, but the Bullets quickly took it back, up 5-4. The teams continued to trade points, with
Leah Youtzy picking up a kill and service ace, and
Lexi Hetrick adding a kill.
Makenzie Adams dropped in an ace to give Messiah a 10-8 lead, but a three-point swing gave the Bullets the lead back, 11-10.
Sydney Wolfe and
Lexi Hetrick each added kills, but Gettysburg began to pull away, now up 15-12. Wolfe, Hetrick, and
Makenzie Adams all tacked on another kill, and
Ellia Spang dropped in an ace, but the Bullets led 23-18 late in the set. Adams added one final kill for Messiah in the set, but Gettysburg took it 25-20.
Set Four
Sydney Wolfe grabbed three quick kills as the Falcons took a 5-3 lead.
Lexi Hetrick added a kill to make it 6-3, but the Bullets used a seven-point run to take control, leading 10-6. Gettysburg kept up the pressure, winning six of the next nine points, leading 16-9.
Leah Youtzy and
Sydney Wolfe each added one more kill, but the Bullets saw out a dominant fourth set, taking it 25-13.
