In celebration of 50 years of Messiah University Athletes, the Falcons are pleased to announce the Top 50 athletes in Messiah history as voted by you, the fans!

The originial survey included over 170 names, with each person fitting one (or more) of the following criteria: 1) All-American in his/her sport; 2) National Player of the Year in his/her sport; 3) #1 all-time statistical leader at Messiah University in his/her sport; and 4) current member of the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor.

This vote was launched as a means to celebrate the history of the Falcons, recognizing just a piece of the tremendous athletic legacy left behind by thousands of Messiah student-athletes. Determining a list of "Top 50" is as much a humbling task as anything else. We trust that the efforts of this survey will be a cause of celebration and reflection of all individuals—student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and community supporters of all abilities, that have contributed to the success of the Falcons!
Below the athletes are listed in alphabetical order, with a brief listing of career accomplishments. The review of accomplishments is not meant to be an exhaustive list of achievements; rather, highlights are listed. For athletes that are in their sport's record books for a number of statistical categories, "Other at Messiah" is provided.

 

Karen (Sollenberger) Ackley Volleyball 2003	All-Commonwealth in 2000 and 2002, and also the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 1998. Karen led the nation in services aces in 2000 (141) and also collected an extremely rare quadruple-double against Allentown (DeSales) University on Oct. 7, 2000: 10 kills, 31 assists, 10 aces, and 13 digs.
Julie Barton Field Hockey 2011	First-Team All-American in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and the NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. Julie was named the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Star team in each of those years as well. Kristen Bates Women's Track and Field 2010	The 2010 NCAA National Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year and National Meet High Point Scorer, Bates was an NCAA Champion in the Indoor 55-meter hurdles and Indoor Pentathlon in 2010. Kristen was the MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2008, 2009, and 2010, the MAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and the MAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year in 2009. She was also an NCAA All-American in the Indoor 55-meter Hurdles (4th, 2008), Triple Jump (3rd, 2008), 100-meter Hurdles (2nd 2009, 4th 2008), and Triple Jump (4th, 2009). In the NCAA, Kristen is ranked 3rd all-time in the non-wind aided 100m hurdles and the Indoor 55m hurdles, and is 8th all-time in the Indoor 60m hurdles. Matt Bills Men's Soccer 2004	An All-American in 2002, Matt was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2003. JD Binger Men's Soccer 2009	JD was named the NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2008, and was an All-American in both 2007 and 2008. He was a member of National Championship teams in 2005, 2006, and 2008.
Chris Boyles Men's Soccer Men's Track and Field 2002	In 2002, Chris was an NCAA Champion in the Decathlon (7115 points) and was an Olympic Trials Finalist in 2004 and 2008. He ranked 14th in the world in the Decathlon in 2007, and was an NCAA All-American in the High Jump (4th, 1999; 5th, 2000); Indoor High Jump (5th, 2000; 8th, 2001; 5th, 2002); Decathlon (4th, 2001; 1st,  2002); and Indoor 55-meter Hurdles (8th 2002). Chris was also the MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2000. Jessica Chambers Softball 1999	An NCAA All-American in 1999, Jessica was also All-Commonwealth in 1997, 1998, and 1999. Also in 1999, she was the NCAA #1-ranked pitcher and the Commonwealth Player of the Year. Other at Messiah: 3rd all-time career shutouts (12); 4th all-time career wins (37), single season strikeouts (366), career games saved (5); 5th all-time career innings pitched (338.2), career earned run average (1.39), career games started (53).
Andrew Collins Men's Lacrosse 2007	An NCAA All-American in 2007, Andrew was also All-MAC in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Other at Messiah: 3rd all-time career assists (91); 4th all-time career points (194); 8th all-time career goals (103).
Mike Dell Men's Track and Field 2008	A current school record-holder for the Indoor Heptathlon (4201 points, 2008), Indoor 800m relay (1:32.06, 2008), and Indoor 1600m relay (3:26.80, 2008), Mike was an NCAA Qualifier in 2007 and 2008. Other at Messiah: 2nd all-time career Decathlon (6437 points, 2008), Shot Put (44’ 9 ¾”, 1999), 400m Relay (42.71, 2008), 1600m relay (3:19.09, 2008); 4th all-time career 400m Relay (42.88, 2007); 5th all-time career Javelin (178’ 8”, 2008), 400-meter Dash (49.79, 2007); 9th all-time career Discus (132’ 8”, 2007); and 10th all-time career 1600m Relay (3:23.2, 2007).
Kevin Dennestaedt Men's Lacrosse 2004	An NCAA All-American in 2004, Kevin was also All-MAC in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Other at Messiah: 5th all-time career goals (125), career points (183); 8th all-time career assists (58).
Megan Duke Women's Lacrosse 2007	An NCAA All-American in 2007, Megan was also the MAC Player of the Year in 2006. she was All-MAC in 2005 and 2006, and was the MAC Rookie of the Year in 2004.  Other at Messiah: 1st all-time single season draw controls (83, 2004), career draw controls (224); 5th all-time career goals scored (125); 7th all-time career points (168); 9th all-time career assists (43)
Kourtney Ehly Field Hockey 2011	An NCAA All-American in 2009 and 2010, Ehly was All-Commnonwealth in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, and the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 2008. Other at Messiah: 4th all-time in career assists and career points; 5th all-time in career goals scored; 2nd all-time in single season goals scored (29, 2009).
Bryan Engle Baseball 2003	The Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year in 2003, Bryan owns a career record of 18-12, 2.96 earned run average, 213 strikeouts, and 61 walks. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time in career pickoffs (16), single season pickoffs (5); 3rd all-time career innings pitched (229), career strikeouts (213); T-3rd all-time in career victories (18)
Aaron Faro Men's Soccer 2003	An NCAA All-American in 2001, Aaron was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2001. He was a member of the 2000 and 2002 National Championship teams.
Aftan Fisher Field Hockey 2006	An NCAA First Team All-American in 2003, 2004, and 2005, Aftan was a Third Team All-American in 2002. She was the NCA Division III Player of the Year in 2005, she was All-Commonwealth in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005, the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2005, and the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 2002. Aftan ranks among the best all-time in the NCAA in career total points (7th), career assists (9th), and career goals (12th). Other at Messiah: 2nd in career total points (226) and career assists (58).
Erin Gallagher Women's Lacrosse 2006	An NCAA All-American in 2006, Erin was All-MAC in 2004 and 2006. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career ground balls (234), career caused turnovers (133), single season ground balls (70); record holder for ground balls in single game (10); 2nd all-time career draw controls (192)
Kara Geiman Women's Lacrosse 2011	An NCAA All-American in 2011, Kara was All-MAC in 2008 and the MAC Rookie of the Year in 2008. Other at Messiah: 3rd all-time career points per game (5.05); T-8th all-time career goals scored (121).
Chris Heisey Baseball 2006	An All-American in 2006, Chris was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2006 and All-Commonwealth in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 2004, Chris is Messiah's first alumnus to play in the MLB (drafted by Cincinnati). Other at Messiah: 1st all-time in batting avg (.405), total bases (294), hitting streak (14 games), career doubles (41), and career extra-base hits (71). Falcon career: 170-420 (.405 avg.), 71 extra base hits, 23 HR, 41 2B, 7 3B, 92 Runs, 100 RBI, 40/42 stolen bases.
Mike Helm Wrestling 2000	An NCAA All-American in 2000, 1998, and 1999, Mike became Messiah's first National Champion (individual or team) in 2000 when he took 1st place in the 157 lb. weight class. He owns a career 112-26 record at Messiah, good enough for 4th all-time in career wins. In February, 2012, Mike will be inducted in the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor.
Erin Hench Women's Soccer 2011	The NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2009, Hench was an All-American in 2009 and an All-Region performer in 2008, 2009, and 2011. A member of National Championship teams in 2008, 2009, and 2011, Hench holds NCAA records for goals in a single postseason tournament (8, 2011), points in a single postseason tournament (20, 2011), and career posteason assists (13), goals (19), and points (51). Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career assists; 2nd all-time career goals scored; 2nd all-time career points.
Dave Henninger Baseball 2005	The Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year in 2004 and 2005, Dave was also All-Commonwealth in 2004. Upon his graduation, Dave played minor league baseball for the Kansas City Royals. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time (pitching) in single season strikeouts (86), K/9-innings (10.8), lowest hits/9-innings (6.43), and winning percentage (8-0, 1.000%). Career (pitcher): 18-4, 187.2 innings pitched, 134 hits, 225 strikeouts, and 2.31 earned run average.
Eli (Cook) Henninger Women's Basketball 2006	The Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2004-2005, Eli was All-Commonwealth in 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time single season steals (104, 2005-06); 4th all-time career rebounds (772); 5th all-time career points (1,354); 7th all-time single season points (453); and 8th all-time single season points (448).
Sarah Hibshman Women's Soccer 2006	An NCAA All-American in 2005, Sarah was a standout member of the women's soccer program's first NCAA Division III National Championship in 2005. The team went 22-0-1 that year.
Josh Hoffman Men's Lacrosse 2005	An NCAA All-American in 2005, Josh was also All-MAC in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
Danae (Chambers) Hollenbach Field Hockey 2005	A NCAA First Team All-American in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, Danae was the NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2004. The Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2002 and 2004, she was a member of the NCAA Final Four All-Star Team in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. Also four-time All-Commonwealth, Danae was the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 2001. Danae is 1st all-time in teh NCAA in total points, and holds the single-season record for total points (103, 2004). Other at Messiah: 1st in career total points (297), goals (111), and assists (75); 1st all-time single season goals (37, 2004), and single season assists (29, 2004).
Nikki (Lobach) Horanburg Women's Basketball 2008	An NCAA All-American in 2008, Nikki was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Nikki was a member of the women's basketball national runner-up team in 2008. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career points per game (16.6); 2nd all-time single season points (570, 2007-08); and 4th all-time career points (1,378).
Christina (Vouriotis) Hutchinson Women's Basketball 2003	An NCAA All-American in 2003, Christina was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2003. She was a member of the national runner-up team in 2001, and was elected to the 2000-2010 Division III All-Decade team for women's basketball. Christina was also the recipient of the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship in 2003. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career points (1,702) and rebounds (862); and 5th all-time career assists (288), career 3-point percentage (38.7%).
Kai Kasiguran Men's Soccer 2008	An NCAA All-American in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, Kai was the NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2007. A member of National Championship teams in 2004, 2005, and 2006, he was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Kacie Klynstra Women's Soccer 2008	An NCAA All-American in 2008, Kacie was NCAA All-Region in 2006 and 2008, and was the NCAA Championship Player of the Tournament in 2005 and 2008. Kacie was also elected to the NCAA Division III 25th Anniversary Team, and was a member of the National Championship teams in 2005 and 2008.
Jono Linebaugh Men's Lacrosse 2005	An NCAA All-American in 2004 and 2005, Jono was the MAC Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005, and All-MAC in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The MAC Rookie of the Year in 2002, he was selected for the US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association North-South game in 2005. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time in career points (319), career assists (156); and 2nd all-time career goals scored (163).
Dave McClellan Men's Soccer 2005	An NCAA All-American in 2004 and 2005, Dave was the NCAA Division II Player of the Year in 2005. He was a member of National Championship teams in 2002, 2004, and 2005. Other at Messiah: 4th all-time single season goals scored (25, 2004); 5th all-time single season points (57, 2004); T-8th all-time career points (126); and T-9th all-time single season goals scored (20, 2005).
Craig Mease Baseball 2008	An All-American in 2008, Craig was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2008. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time fielding at 2B/Shortstop (.925, minimum 500 chances). Career: 173-524 (.330 avg.), 16 HR, 35 2B, 15 3B, 129 RBI, 13-18 stolen bases
J.J. Miller Men's Lacrosse 2011	All-MAC in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, J.J. was the MAC Rookie of the Year in 2008. He was also selected for the US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association North-South game in 2011. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time in ground balls (578), ground balls per game (9.323), face-off attempts (1036), face-off wins (679), and face-off percentage (65.54%).
Amanda Naeher Women's Soccer 2011	The NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2008 and 2010, Amanda was an NCAA All-American in 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2008 and 2010, and was elected to the NCAA Division III 25th Anniversary Team. She places 8th all-time in NCAA for career goals (108) and career points (252). She was a member of National Championship teams in 2008 and 2009. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career goals scored (108), career points (252); T-7th all-time career assists (25); 1st all-time single season points (73, 2009), single season goals scored (33, 2008); and 2nd all-time single season points (72, 2008), single season goals scored (31, 2009).
Tyler Newhook Men's Cross Country Men's Track and Field 2012	An NCAA All-American in 2010 in the 800m Run (7th) and Indoor 800m Run (3rd), Tyler was the MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2011, MAC Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2009, and MAC Cross Country Rookie of the Year in 2008. Other at Messiah: School record holder in Indoor 800m Run (1:51.96, 2011), Indoor Mile (4:14.26, 2011), Indoor 6400m Relay (17:54.31, 2010), Indoor Distance Medley Relay (10:10.31, 2010); 2nd all-time career 800-meter Run (1:51.36, 2011),1500-meter Run (3:54.08, 2011); and 6th all-time career 5k (15:17.39, 2011).
Jodi Noble Women's Basketball 1984	The first individual female member of the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor (inducted in 1995), Noble was a Little University All-American in 1984. Other at Messiah: 2nd all-time career rebounds (798); 7th all-time single season rebounds (236, 1982-83).
Geoff Pezon Men's Soccer 2011	The NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2010, Geoff was an NCAA All-American in 2009 and 2010. He was also the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2009. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career assists (46); 1st all-time single season assists (18, 2009); 4th all-time career points (154); T-4th all-time single season assists (13, 2008); T-7th all-time career goals (54); and T-10th all-time single season assists (11, 2010).
Jessica Regan Softball 1999	An NCAA All-American in 1996, 1998, and 1999, Jessica was All-Commonwealth in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. Other at Messiah: Career pitching record of 71-22; 1st all-time career appearances (105), career innings pitched (507.0), career games started (91); T-1st all-time career wins (71); 2nd all-time career ERA (1.17), career shutouts (29), career strikeouts (515).
Jessica Rhoads Softball 2011	An NCAA All-American in 2010, Jessica was the Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year in 2009 and 2010. She pitched two perfect games-- one each in 2010 and 2011-- and holds an NCAA record of a 12.97 strikeout/7-innings ratio (2009). Jess was a member of the Falcons' 2009 National Championship team. Pat Roach Men's Track and Field 2009	An NCAA All-American in the 400m Dash (5th, 2008), Indoor 800m Run (3rd, 2009), and 800m Run (2nd, 2009), Pat was a 2010 USATF National Championships participant in the 800m. At the time of his graduation, he was 8th all-time in the NCAA in the 800m Run. Pat was also the MAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2009. Dustin Shambach Men's Soccer 2007	A member of National Championship teams in 2004, 2005, and 2006, Dustin holds goalkeeper records at Messiah for career shutouts (58) and career goals against average (0.38). Other at Messiah: Owns three of the top five single season goals against averages (0.29 in 2004; 0.38 in 2005; 0.39 in 2006). Owns three of the top four single season shutout totals (16 in 2004; 14.5 in 2005; 13.5 in 2006).
Greg Standford Men's Track and Field 1992	Greg was an NCAA All-American in the Triple Jump in 1992 (7th). Other at Messiah: 2nd all-time career Long Jump (23’ 0”, 1992); 3rd all-time career 400m Relay (42.84, 1990); 5th all-time career Triple Jump (47’ 5 ¾”, 1992); and 9th all-time career 400m Relay (43.65, 1992).
Amy (Reed) Stead Women's Track and Field 2008	An NCAA Champion in the Heptathlon in 2008, Amy is 4th all-time in the NCAA for her Heptathlon performance. She was also an NCAA All-American in the Heptathlon (2nd, 2007; and 5th, 2006) and Javelin (3rd, 2008; and 4th, 2007). Amy was the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2008, the MAC Field Events Athlete of the Year in 2008, and the MAC Scholar-Athlete Award Winner in Outdoor Track and Field in 2008. Amy was also the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Field Athlete of the Year in the Mideast Region in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Women's Field Athlete of the Year in 2008. Other at Messiah: School record holder in the Heptathlon (5111, 2008), Javelin (New - 152'11", 2007); 2nd all-time Triple Jump (38’ 2 ¼”, 2008), 400-meter Intermediate Hurdles (1:04.99, 2007); 3rd all-time Long Jump (18’ 3 ½”, 2008), 110-meter Hurdles (15.01, 2008); 8th  all-time 200m (26.18, 2008), 400m (59.40, 2007); 9th all-time Shot Put (35’4.5”, 2008); 10th all-time  800m (2:20.71, 2007). Amy was also a member of the Women's Basketball National Runner-Up Team in 2008.
Todd Suessmuth Men's Soccer 1990	A member of the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor (inducted in 2011), Todd was an NCAA All-American in 1988 and 1989. He was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 1989. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career points (165); T-1st all-time career goals scored (68); 6th all-time career assists (29), single season points (52, 1988); and T-9th all-time single season goals scored (20, 1988).
Nick Thompson Men's Soccer 2011	An NCAA All-American in 2010, Nick was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2010. He was a member of the 2008, 2009, and 2010 National Championship teams. Other at Messiah: T-7th all-time career goals scored (54); and T-8th all-time career points (126).
Jennifer (Wenger) Thuma Softball 1998	An NCAA All-American in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998, Jennifer was also All-Commonwealth for each of those four years. She led the 1998 Softball World Series with a .636 batting average. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time single season at-bats (160), hits (72), on-base % (.594); 1st all-time career runs scored (137), career hits (231), career stolen bases (92); 2nd all-time career on base percentage (.486), career at bats (513), career batting average (.450); and 4th all-time career triples (12), career slugging percentage (.559). In February, 2012, Jennifer will be inducted in the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor.
Andy Vogel Wrestling 2003	An NCAA All-American in 2001 (2nd), 2002 (7th), and 2003 (7th), Andy owns a career record of 157-16. His 157 wins is 1st all-time in Messiah history. Other at Messiah: 1st all-time career takedowns (422) and career nearfalls (190).
Dave Wiederrecht Men's Track and Field 1991	An NCAA All-American in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles in 1989 (3rd) and 1990 (4th), Dave also qualified for the event in 1988. He is the current school record holder in the Indoor 300m Dash (38.4, 1990), 400m Intermediate Hurdles (52.59, 1990), and 1600m Relay (3:18.76, 1991). Hayden Woodworth Men's Soccer 2003	The NCAA Division III Player of the Year in 2002, Hayden was an NCAA All-American in 2000 and 2002. He was the Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2000, and the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in 1999. He was a member of the National Championship team in 2000.
Jared Yoder Men's Basketball 2007	The Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2007, Jared was also a 2nd Team NABC All-American in 2007. He was All-Commonwealth in 2006 and 2007. Other at Messiah: 10th all-time career points (1,115).
Lester Zook Men's Track and Field 1982	A member of the Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor (inducted in 1995), Lester was a recipient of the NCCAA Outstanding Athlete Award in 1982. An NCCAA National Champion in 1982 (for both the 5k and 10k), he is the current school record holder for the Outdoor 10k (30:28.24, 1982).
