In January 2022, Joey Nieves-Markee began his first year as an Assistant Coach at Messiah University after coaching at Cairn University for the last five years. While at Cairn, Nieves-Markee oversaw outfielders, defensive scouting, and baserunning. Nieves-Markee lead the Highlanders to a record setting 140 stolen bases in 2019 which helped them advance to their first ever conference championship. Cairn has been in the top 10 of NCAA D3 in stolen bases and stolen bases/game the last several years while Nieves-Markee oversaw the runners.

Nieves-Markee was a four-year starter as a pitcher and outfielder for Cairn University where he was a two-year captain. Nieves-Markee had a career batting average of .393 and on-base average of .507. During his senior campaign, he led the team in runs and stolen bases as well as recording 50 hits and 50 runs.

Nieves-Markee will oversee baserunning and scouting as well as assist with outfielders and the spiritual development of the Messiah University baseball team.
