Ashley Matarrese

Ashley Matarrese returns to the Messiah field hockey team in 2024, her 9th season as assistant coach for the program for which she once starred.

Matarrese is a 2007 graduate of Messiah University and she played two seasons for the Falcons' field hockey program after transferring from Towson University. Matarrese was a starting center-midfielder for the Falcons in 2004 and 2005, and she earned NFHCA Third Team All-American honors in 2004 and First Team All-American honors in 2005. Truly, Matarrese was established as one the best players in the nation at her position.

"I'm very excited to have Ashley on our staff," Messiah head coach Brooke Good said. "As a player at Messiah, Ashley set the standard for what a center-midfielder and a leader should be. She was mentally tough, and very consistent. I know that our players will benefit greatly from her leadership."

"I'm excited to lead and teach our athletes to always be at their best, both on and off the field," Matarrese said. "My desire is to challenge them to grow in all areas of their lives."

A native of Hanover, Pa., Matarrese resides in nearby Mechanicsburg with her husband and fellow Messiah alumnus, Dan, and their two sons, Jayden and Elijah.
