Coach "Sass", a 1976 graduate of Messiah, is entering his 38th season with the Falcons in 2020-21. Prior to working with the women's program he coached for seven years in the men's programs at both Messiah University (6) and Dickinson College (1).

His love and passion for the game can be seen in his intense desire for the team to excel on the defensive end of the floor. Coach Sassaman directs the defensive scheme for the Falcons and also acts as a motivator for the team.

"Sass" brings plenty of experience to the Women's Basketball coaching staff. Not only has he been involved as Director of Elementary Basketball, the Head Coach for a high school team, and assistant coach on various middle school, high school, and collegiate teams, but he has also been involved in Messiah Basketball Camps since they originated in 1974.

During his playing career coach Sassaman played for Tamaqua Area High School. When he came to Messiah he also played for the Falcons for four years and was captain of the team his senior year.

"Being part of the Messiah Basketball family and working with Christian women who desire to learn and improve has been a joy and very rewarding," coach "Sass" said of the impact of being an assistant women's basketball coach at Messiah University.

"Each year presents new and exciting challenges. Therefore, I look forward to helping the team reach their fullest potential," he stated about what he looks forward to each year.

Sassaman lives in Mechanicsburg with his wife Kathy. They have two children, daughter, women's basketball alumnus, and fellow assistant coach Kristin, and son Andrew.
