The 2016-17 season marks Katherine Athens' third year with Messiah women's lacrosse. Athens originally joined the Falcons as a graduate assistant coach, and will stay stay onboard after completing her degree.
Athens has been an integral part of the Falcons' back-to-back MAC Commonwealth Championships and will continue her influential role under the leadership of head coach Heather Greer.
Prior to arriving at Messiah College, Athens played four seasons at Division II Pfeiffer University. As a four-year letter winner and three-year captain, she was a three-time IWLCA All-American (2012-14), two-time conference Carolina defensive player of the year (2013 and 2014) and four-time member of the all-conference team (2011-14). Athens also served as the University's head sports Chaplain.

In addition to her coaching career, Athens has built experience as an instructor at many clinics and camps including Penn State, Navy, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
