Messiah University Athletics Hall of Honor
Women’s Track and Cross Country
1985-1989
Kelly was a tremendous competitor in track and cross country, and her Christian commitment was strong and courageous. As a result, Kelly depicts what Messiah student-athletes should be all about. In both cross country and track, she qualified for NCAA national championship competition two different times—in track, she qualified in four different events. That opportunity resulted in All-American status and a fifth-place national finish in the 10,000-m run in 1987. Kelly is a three-time MAC champion, in the 3000-m once and in the 5000-m run twice. Nearly 15 years later, she still holds three Messiah College records and two Starry Athletic Field marks. A strong athletic competitor, she also exhibited spiritual maturity that was noticed by her teammates, whom she served as captain.
