Falcons Can't Find Net, Fall Short to Knights

Grantham, PA – The Falcons suffered their second straight conference defeat this afternoon. Falling to the Arcaida Knights on Homecoming. While the Falcons outshot the Knights 21-8 in the game and had numerous scoring chances, they could not cash in and were held scoreless.

After the Knights held possession in the Falcon end for the first few minutes of the game, Carissa Gehman had a chance for the Falcons in the sixth minute. She ripped a hard shot from the left side, but it was blocked in front of the left post. The Falcons had chances throughout the first 20 minutes, but saw shots from Megan Prall and Emily Rubright miss wide. Followed by a shot from Gehman that was saved on a breakaway.

In the 29th minute and with the scored still tied 0-0, the Knights struck. Off of a penalty corner Carly Day saved the initial attempt, but the rebound found its way to Katrina Dull who put it past Day and gave Arcadia a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later the Knights looked to have stuck again. Off of their third straight penalty corner, a shot found the back of the net, but it was waved off due to an illegal touch before the shot was taken. With just seconds to play in the first-half, Carissa Gehman was one-on-one with the goalie but the keeper saved her shot and the Falcons trailed 1-0 at the half.

Early in the second half Moriah Pfautz weaved her way through the top of the circle and put a shot on frame that got passed the keeper only to have Morgan Paese make a defensive save for the Knights.

In the 53rd minute the Knights had a perfect opportunity to tack on an insurance goal when Molly Goldstein took a penalty stroke. However the stroke was saved by Carly Day to keep the Falcons deficient at one.

Late in the half the Falcons continued to have chances. Off of a corner in the 63rd minute Gehman had a shot saved of the goalie's pads. Moments later Kristen Donohue had consecutive shots saved. And with the clock ticking down in the 70th minute, Pfautz split two defenders at the top of the circle before firing a shot that missed just wide of the left post.

In the final four minutes the Knights picked up three yellow cards including two in the last minute.

The loss is their second straight 1-0 defeat, after losing to Lebanon Valley last Saturday. The Falcons have not scored in their last 155 minutes of play. Though in that time they have outshot their opponents 28-18.

With the loss the Falcons moved to 8-6 on the year and 2-2 in their conference. The win improves the Knights to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Falcons next play in Frederick, MD on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
