Back in the Win Column, Falcons roll 6-0

Frederick, MD – The Messiah Falcon's field hockey team rebounded from consecutive 1-0 losses to score early and often to beat the Hood Blazers 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

After being held scoreless for the previous 155 minutes entering the game Wednesday, the Falcons wasted no time on getting on the board against the Blazers. Carissa Gehman got the scoring going when she found the back of the net just 2:03 into the game.

The Falcons continued to pressure the Hood defense with multiple penalty corners before Moriah Pfautz scored for the Falcons 10:33 seconds into the game. Less than two minutes later the Falcons added another goal, when Taylor Holt fed Kristin Donohue who's shot found the back of the net giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead, 12:29 into the game.

While the Falcons were comfortably ahead they continued to have chances to expand their lead, with shots from Donohue and Lindsay Bower turned away by the Blazers defense. The Blazers would have chances of their own, but in the 24th minute Carly Day would make a save and Alyssa Sadorf made a defensive save to keep the Blazers off the board.

Just over two minutes before the half, the Falcons would pad their lead with an insurance goal from Emily Rubright. Off of a penalty corner Karin Holvik found Rubright who beat the keeper and extended the Falcons lead to 4-0 going into the half.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Gehman's shot hit the post, but Moriah Pfautz was there to knock in the rebound. The goal was her second of the game and sixth of the season.

In the 47th the Falcons connected for their final goal of the game, when Carisas Gehman beat the Hood goalkeeper with a backhanded sweep. The goal was also her second of the game and was a team leading 19th of the season.

The Falcons outshot the Blazers 18-2 in the game and held an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

The shutout was the Falcons second of the season (Haverford).

Ellery Klineyoung saw her first action in goal on the Field Hockey field, playing the final 24 minutes in goal.

The Falcons next take the field on Saturday in Chester, PA when they take on the Widener Pride at 12:00 p.m.
