Falcons Blank Pride in 6-0 Victory

Chester, PA - The Falcons carried over their strong play from earlier this week to defeat the Widener Pride 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. The shutout on Saturday was the second consecutive for the Falcons' defense after they're offense was shutout in consecutive contests last week.

Carissa Gehman and Ally Morgret lead the Falcons' offense with two goals apiece. Taylor Holt and Emily Rubright both found the back of the cage, tallying one goal each in the second half.

The Pride tested the Falcons' defense early. Carly Day made both of her saves of the afternoon in the 6th minute, when she kept out the initial shot by Brittany Lavin and the attempt off the rebound by Tai Dottery just seconds later.

Just over a minute after the back-to-back saves by Day, Carissa Gehman got the Falcons' offense started when she took a pass from Emily Rubright that put her one-on-one with the Pride goalkeeper. She beat the keeper to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at the 6:37 mark of the first-half.

On the Falcons' next shot, less than three minutes later, Gehman found the back of the cage once again. This time, Nicole Wilkerson fed Gehman on the right side of the circle and she fired a hard shot that beat the goalie once again, putting the Falcons up 2-0.

The Falcons' offense continued to pressure, looking for insurance. Across the next 15-plus minutes the Falcons nine shots with none finding the back of the goal. Two Pride goalies combined to make six saves across this stretch.

The Falcons were relentless in their attack, eventually finding their third goal when Ally Morgret tapped the ball in after a scramble in front of the cage in the 25th minute.

The Falcons lead 3-0 through the half.

However, six minutes into the second-half the Falcons would pad their lead. Off of a corner Moriah Pfautz sent a hard shot toward goal that was deflected by Emily Rubright past the goalie, putting the Falcons up 4-0.

Just two minutes later the Falcons added on when Taylor Holt scored unassisted, for her sixth goal of the year.

Ally Morgret capped the Falcon scoring when she put in a cross that was delivered by Kristin Donohue. The goal was Morgret's second of the game and with it, gave Morgret her first career multi-goal game.

With the Falcons up 6-0, Ellery Klineyoung entered the game for the Falcons. Klineyoung's save in the 53rd minute preserved the shutout for the Falcons.
The Falcons dominated play throughout the game, outshooting the Pride 27-4 and had 10 penalty corners to the Prides zero.

The win improves the Falcons to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference. They currently sit in third place in the conference behind Lebanon Valley and Arcadia.

The Falcons will wrap up conference play next week when they host the Albright Lions on Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m. at Anderson Field.
