Falcons Finish C'Wealth Regular Season with 3-0 Win Over Lions

Grantham, PA – The Messiah field hockey team wrapped up their Commonwealth Conference schedule on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over the Albright Lions. The Falcons dominated in all facets of the game out shooting the Lions 46-4.

The Falcons came out firing, taking 11 shots before finally connecting on their 12th shot of the evening at the 11:54 mark. Emily Rubright had the ball at the top of the circle before finding Kristin Donohue at the left post who beat the goalkeeper to get the Falcons on the board.

The Falcons continued to pressure the Lions throughout the rest of the first half, but could not add to their 1-0 lead. At the half, the Falcons lead 1-0 on the scoreboard but dominated possession and lead in shots 21-2.

As the second half began the Falcons wasted no time adding to their lead. Off a penalty corner just two and a half minutes into the second half, Moriah Pfautz deflected Becky Ely's shot past the goalie for her seventh goal of the year. The goal gave Messiah a 2-0.

Just as they did in the first half, the Falcons looked for an insurance goal. Unlike the first half, that insurance goal would come. 20 minutes after Pfautz put the Falcons up two Ally Morgret fed Carissa Gehman, off a penalty corner, at the top of the circle. Gehman took a hard strike to goal and beat the Lions' keeper.

While the Falcons had chances to score throughout the game – out shooting the Lions 46-4 on the game – Lions' goalie Gabby Frake made 19 saves to keep Albright in the game.

The win improves the Falcons to 11-6 on the season and 5-2 in the conference and with the loss the Lions move to 2-17 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

The Falcons will be in action Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1, when they travel to William Smith College to play the Herons beginning at 12:00 p.m. in their final contest of the regular season.

Be sure to follow the Falcons in conference playoffs next week. The Falcons have already claimed a spot in the four-team championship, but a wait their seeding that is dependent on results of other conference games tonight.

UPDATE: By way of the final standings in the Commonwealth, Messiah will travel as the No. 4 seed to Arcadia University on Wednesday, Nov. 5 for a Semifinal game with the Knights. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
